This is opinion based on perspective and preference. There's nothing wrong with any of it provided it doesn't hurt anyone else, it's not my thing but I'm not going to go about judging people for choosing a life of alcohol/drug/party indulgence, I did the same thing for a couple of years myself anyway and had a blast.

I don't think we differ too much on this. The guy isn't a hero but this is fun.

How does your love of Liam Gallagher fit in with all this "... have better idols ..." stuff?

Peace,

kowalski
That's true...I just find him to be a sorry case.

RE Liam Gallagher...I think Oasis are a fantastic band, but I would only consider Noel to be someone whom I respect. Liam is obviously a cunt, not in a dissimilar vein to Charlie Sheen, actually - I just find him to be quite funny, which I don't find Charlie Sheen to be. Plus, I've heard people tell me that I sound like him when I'm drunk, hence Mad_Fer_It.

Thumbs up for you - I shall now purchase some training from you, where do I send the money?

Of course I do but not for something like the above. Not for anything that's just a question of preference though. Their life choice is their choice, I have no desire to judge them for it merely because it's not what I would choose to do, I don't believe that my life choice is "better" or "more right".

I will however judge people based on lack of sense and moral fiber. None of us are immune to judging others, what we choose to judge them for however...

When I said "judging" in the quote you're using I was referring to what I perceive as the negative judging that most people do - merely judging people for a personal preference.

Actually no. I've met so many people that have been the complete opposite of what any visual judgement might tell me that I just no longer do it. I was part of the "alternative" crowd when I was younger and subject to a LOT of bullying due to the way I looked, as were everyone in that crowd. A friend of mine was killed for being a goth, died in an attack because of the way she dressed..

Judgement of character based on visual impression it's absolutely fucking retarded.

That wasn't a judgement of character "that guy looks a tit", was not supposed to infer anything about character it is only a comment about appearance. Judging someone's appearance based on their appearance, that is all.

How about "that girl looks hot"?

We judge. It is what it is.

Peace,

kowalski
Yeah, you're correct. I actually toyed with pre-empting this argument but appending it would have taken from my other point. I should clarify that the judging I speak of in the quote really applies to negative judging. It's a poor generalisation I understand that. There's semantics here in the context the word is used though that goes beyond it's simple dictionary definition.

I think the difference is that one form of judgement is the simple subjective from, using your example "I don't like the way he/she looks". The negative form of judging I speak of would be to make this judgement and hold it against their character, something far too many people do.

I actually go the other way and let my instant judgements of things run free, I listen to them and respond accordingly. Those judgements don't come from nowhere, your brain is just doing its job and trying to spot patterns that will help you to survive based on every piece of information it has managed to amass over your lifetime.

Mine does a damn fine job of it too, significantly better than I can do through conscious cognition. Both play their part in my judgements, but we don't really have time to wait and see if our first impression is correct or not.

Peace,

kowalski
Nope, don't do it. I've got enough heavily tattooed hell's angel looking friends and enough skin head friends to know that that the vast majority of the time this kind of judgement is just wrong.

I'll go on guard when someone shows that they're aggressive through behaviour, not image. Some of the kindest people I know look pretty mean.

If you didn't read the signs and instead waited for definitives, you wouldn't have lived to the age you are now. (That's right you can only prove to me that you don't do this by having died shortly after you started doing it, which sounds like it was some years ago. You might just as well argue that you don't absorb nutrients or some such.)

There is a hole in the skirting board, my cheese has little nibbles in it and there are tiny little brown balls of what seems to be shit on my floor. Do I wait till I actually see the mouse to judge the situation? After which time it has done a piss in my yoghurt and I die. Crude example.

Peace,

I'm not buying this at all. Your example isn't relative to the topic because we're discussing people, not to mention that your example shows a definitive sign of a mouse having been there at some point.

I used them as a common example most would relate to, we all know they're subject to such judgments. Sure we all judge others and make judgements, I'm not arguing that. I'm arguing that I don't make judgments against a person's character purely on interpretation of what somebody looks like.

I've known guys like Charlie sheen in the past (not millionaire celebe though obviously) and whilst they live in the moment and have their own crazy reality, they don't get pussy and can completely lose it. Do not idolise this guy. ANYONE with millions of pounds and worldwide celebrity status can fuck pornstars.
