Almost all teachings relating to the self that strive for what's psychologically healthiest converge with one another. Almost all of them were motivated by their own unhappiness and desire to feel better, it's been a while, Sartre's caveat was ugliness right? As a result of being motivated by their own issues they all sought and found the same end. Everyone here has their own issues and reasoning for coming to terms with the self and ultimately at the healthiest end the same self acceptance arises. The writings might have different idiosyncrasies but if they all come to the same end does it matter?

People should just read whatever makes the most sense to them, they all get the job done. Whatever gets their quickest for the individual.

Granted, but it is not necessary to understand, and try to reduce, ego-based activity in order to be good with girls. Think about it - are any of the men who are naturally good with women seriously giving a fuck about whether they're coming from an ego-driven place? Pulling girls is simple - go and talk to her and if she's cool ask her out. At no point will worrying about anything, least of all ego, help you.

And my view on Tolle is unchanged. He is not a serious philosopher, just a bit of a hippie writing fairtrade pseudo-psychology. If you quoted him in a philosophy exam they'd tell you to get fucked.

It's just advice, fellas. Do whatever the FUCK you wanna do

Not going to disagree with that. I half heartedly mentioned what you're talking about:

Quote:
There's two sides to this though, the majority of people participate in the ego based system of value and competition with others. This means that in some cases not telling people to fuck off may make you look weak and thus participating is more valuable to you in the sense of overall return. This however has a counter effect to the personal inner strength that comes with feeling true indifference.
Amusingly though you've said what Tolle also said - not to get caught up in an unending thinking cycle of the mind.

In the comments people are arguing about which philosopher first proclaimd that all humans are free. Its lik saying dogs are wise. words are only bullshit opinions.

If you say you are free, you are free. Everyone is constrained and everyone has freedoms. Everyone is a prisoner of some kind. Everyone is as valid as everyone else by one measure and simultaneously arent by another. I agree with Sartre that nothing means anything but he is completely unaware of biological truths such as selfish gene territory. In this documentary they say he lived his life by his ideas, but I say his ideas were caused by the way he naturally went through his life following a behavioural persona that we all inherit developmentally from birth. Tolles philosophy is that philosophers are missing the point.

Having said all that, maybe it is an exercise in ego protection, in so far as if I'm being rejected due to the silly comment I've made, it's not really me being rejected, it's what I've said.
Sure, if you use this opener and that opener you can blame it on the words. Of course if you are upfront and honest with the girl and speak your mind in that moment, then you're putting your balls on the line. This is attractive.

More importantly though, get out there and try what you have proposed. Tell us how you get on. Silliness is funny, and a sense of humour is cool.
