That's true. Was mainly to show there's really no difference between day game and shop game. I know 1 guy who starts singing "Killing me softly" when someone asks for £50 cashback.

For this time of year and the cold it brings I'd suggest opening with something like "It's getting really cold out now, isn't it?" - Then you know she'll likely say 'yes' and I've found recently that people often have loads to say about the cold weather so either she'll talk and maybe ask a question or you can lead on with something about how she seems better equipt for the cold than you or how it's apparently going to snow soon but you can never trust the weather forcast... stuff like that.

Just keep moving the conversation in the direction you want it to go but if she's a hot girl and you don't want to go direct then I'd advise to start on a winter topic.


As for the headphones, just signal to her to take them out. As she comes out the shop, makes sure you're facing her so she can see you, smile, signal to her to take her headphones out or just make it obvious you're talking to her and she will likely take them out and ask you to repeat what you said.


But bare in mind she might actually be in a hurry so don't become disheartened if she wants to bolt quickly.

Well there is quite a difference as you are having to talk to customers anyway, you have that excuse to be interacting. Going up to a girl on the street is direct in itself, there's no hiding the fact that you are approaching her because you find her attractive. In the shop, any intent is debatable.

Point. I've been very comfortable with day game for a long time now, most of the things I say to customers are the same I used to say without being a member of staff. Granted though, the checkout banter and the fact customer assistants do interact with people a lot is an excuse to approach but honestly from what I do and the open manner I've always had, it didn't seem too much of a change to me. Maybe now I'm thinking about it, more of a change between interactions with girls a little older than me.
Perhaps that's why I've bedded in so well within my role.

As far as verbal goes fdq and negs are really powerful. It sounds lame but people want what they cant have and people are self conscious so negs work on that.

Personally, I think stopping a stranger to talk about the weather is pretty strange. I would roll with something a lot more specific. For me this would be about being honest with her, her beauty, her hair, her style, etc. This can range from being quite sexual, to fairly innocent and indirect.

I haven't really had negative responses when I've opened by talking about the weather, it was a surprise to me how people always seemed to have something to say about it.

Only yesterday I was getting off the bus with a girl, I didn't know but she works in the shop next door to where I work. I said "god it's cold, I should have brought my coat like you have". She replied and commented that it's supposed to snow and that really her coat is wafer thin so she has 2 jumpers on as well, then the conversation got going for about 15 minutes on various subjects like the chirpy bus driver, the xmas rush, buying gifts and stuff like that.
