Default Extra Cash/Broke - 22-01-2012, 10:34 PM

As you may know living on your own is a rather expensive business
My 6 month lease on my flat is coming up next month so ive got a few options to play with.Idealy id like to have some extra cash in my pocket for festivals, gigs, taking chicks out,new clothes etc this year.At mo after all bills and food have gone out ive got a minimum amount of money left,if i have any kind of financial emergency i have nothing at all,its really starting to kill me.
So here are my options in my head

.Move someone in to help with the bills,i live in a one bedroom flat but id happily have the living room area and whoevers moves in gets the bedroom (ive already tried this once but i was warned by more than one person that the guy moving in was a constant liar and a thief).

.Move into a shared house,a good option however owning noisy pets im not sure if theres gona be any takers??

.move in with family up north again cheaper but im not sure how the pets+me living arangement would work out??

Im just frustrated at being broke constantly,i cant get the cash together to fix my car and go places, plus now in taking gym training/diet seriously my moneys going to be totally zapped so if any of you guys out there have been in the same situation and figured out a good way to keep some extra cash in your pockets id be interested to hear about it

Lovefish what is it you do for work? and is there anything you can do on top of that?

I have worked in the print industry since leaving college so that gives me the opportunity at most places I have worked to get cost price printing done. This means I either work as the middle man and "purchase print" or I complete simple design for business cards, stationery etc. and make a little more on top of the print. The only porblem with this is that the work is not always regular as I do it for friends and referrals. It works well as I receive payment on delivery and don't have to pay work off until I have been paid. The only draw back is that I have to put this down as a self-employed occupation and pay tax on people not wanting to pay cash (but it doesn't happen very often).
I've often thought about taking it full-time but I'm wary about takintg such a risk as I don't think I could support myself full-time (plus then I'd have to start paying full cost for print)

I also have a basic food hygeine certificate so I work as a sous chef for a local bar restaurant where I do 2 shifts a week. This is regular work but I definitely don't get as much as I do for printing.

All in all I get about £35k but probably put in a 50-55hr work week. It covers the bills and I don't get stressed. I only started this recently as up until last september I was struggling in my last job at £17k

All in all look at your job and your skills, see how you can apply them. If you cant think of an easy way to apply these then write a pua book, everyone's doing it nowadays

100% agree with you Jaz its a nightmare out there and friends of mine who also are usually pretty flush are struggling away also, tough times for most right now

Originally i 2 worked in the print industry straight from college!!
From 2000-2008 but where i am living its all but dead and any print jobs going round here are theres always a scrum of people with the same or more skills/service as me
Ive been trying to get back into the trade again since i was made redundant but its dying on its arse.
Plus i dont actually have any print skills as such i was basically an over paid machine minder/fork lift driver.

I currently work as a book order sorter, its not the best tbh and its about 13 and a half k a year (roughly a grand a month). But right now jobs are scare and as i am pretty much classed as an unskilled worker i do feel grateful to have it.
I have considered a college course to get some extra skills but its the old chesnut of not having the money to take the course to get the skills to get the extra cash.

A second job is a consideration however im not sure what i would/could do to drum up some extra cash??
Plus this year i have been planning on getting seriously in shape,so i am a lil reluctant to take on something extra that would cut into gym/mma time and obv sarging time!!

Time to get the thinking cap on me thinks there has to be a way to make a coupla extra quid.

For sure it's a nightmare! I had to go up against 45 other candidates when I went for this job!

You say you're a forklift truck driver, is there any agency work you can do or maybe even go full-time agency if the pay is any good.

IF you get yourself into very trim shape you could also go as a male escort/strippergram. IT would be a good giggle and you could have women throw themselves at you. See if there are any spare jobs going at the gym you work at (free gym) or if you get a discount through your company at a local gym as that will shave the £s.

Sell games and stuff you don't need anymore on ebay and even invest in crap and sell them on. I used to sell slightly faulty Parker's Car Price Guides on ebay for half price.

Can you fix computers or give computer lessons? Throw an advert in your local newsagents! £7p.h lessons or quote to fix etc.

Basically, I feel you bro.
UK is really expensive compared to other countries. They sneak everything up on you with the price increases too - most people don't notice.

Well done getting the job!!
Its pretty much the same here in the print trade:S

I do have forklift licenses and have been keeping an eye out for regular work in that area, however i dont know about where you are but here agencies are very fickle. They will usually say yeh come work for us we will sort you regular work, then overload a factory with workers and whoever isnt needed gets sent home again so you never seem to get a full weeks wages, its happened to me with a few agencies and has made me very wary of them.
Plus this area seems to be overloaded with people with forklift licenses at the mo and even acencies are reluctant to take more on their books these days!!

Male escort/strippergram
Ive never really considered that kinda a work.....maybe ill consider it when im buff and a bit more confident but no help right now tho.Tho yeh women throwing themselves at me would be welcome
Thats a good call get a job at a gym!! deffo sumat i can look into.
My work dont do a gym discount i dont think.thoo ill ask anyways yah never know.
I do have a ton of junk crammed in my flat probs need a clear out and maybe make a coupla quid, ive never bought or sold on ebay,i sposse if you know what your doing it could be worth while.Have you ever made much money out of it??

Nope im a complete technophobe no clue about computers/phones anything like that if it goes wrong i have to call my m8 screaming "HELP!!"

I dont really have any skills as such ive kinda never started anything and finished it/stuck at it.Just done it for a bit wasted a load of money on it then moved on and not learnt anything.....sad really

Yep, don't know anyone with any spare cash over here either. Hell, I'm nearly 3 months behind on rent. :/
