Default How to goal set?? - 16-09-2011, 11:05 PM

Right all my life ive been in the same routine of starting something for example a computer game playing it obsesively for a few weeks then dropping it and moving onto something else.I now have 60 unfinished computer games!!
I have always done this in all areas of my life started something, done it obsesively then dropped it like a sack of shit getting no results from it.
Just now i have drawn up a list of goals for me/my life id like to achieve in the next 6months/year and 3years.
How do i ensure that i remain disiplined and stick to these goals that i have set for myself,so that i get the end result for a change, plus gain a sense of satisfaction that i have completed a task??

Yes mate I started a similar thread here http://www.puaforum.co.uk/psychology...18-phases.html

Sapphire had a good response on that thread:

Yeah its called being a bloke. We are programmed to be serially obsessive about things. Unless you suddenly develop a passion for writing down train numbers I wouldnt get too worried.

Lovefish i, don't worry have the same problem i always seem to fly into things but never seem t...

the trick is to find a true passion and utilize that to finish your goals. i personally like my career and cycling. the only 2 things i have that i always finish, be it servicing my bike or finshing a project!

pen & paper & a a partner who wants the same goal.

the importance of support from others is vastly underlooked

al_phaD has hit the nail on the head.

Let me illustrate this one simple fact. How many copies of the 'Game' have been sold in the UK, how much PUA material is downloaded hourly, how many books on being a PUA are bought from amazon everyday.
So why isn't every man in the UK a PUA which I have to say would be a major fucking problem, why do PUA's represent such a small percentage of the male population. A bizarre stat I read was more men die from prostate cancer than there are PUA's. Couldn’t they just say less than 10k in a male population of say 30 million? Okay so we don't call ourselves PUA's but you get the point. Actually that's not the point, the point is the reason why game isn't more visible is because men read the books, watch the videos, join the forums then go out get rejected and......give up and go back to what they think got results. If you think drinking five pints before your brave enough to approach and getting laid once every 6 months is getting results, then fine.

As humans one of our biggest flaws is we will always take the easy route, this is not always the best course of action.

What helped me set goals may not help you but may inspire in some way. Lets take PU as an example.

I devoted several months to reading and watching anything I could lay my hands on, extreme I know but I turned it into a hobby rather than something I felt I had to do that way my mindset shifted. If a task is a chore it is always going to be easier to put off and eventually give up on. Re-frame make it interesting, you don’t need to become obsessed, just turn it into something you enjoy doing.

Second I bought a blackboard and chalk, I set a few goals 4 weeks, 90 days and one or two goals for the year. I placed it in the kitchen every morning I’d stagger in hung over and with a cigarette in my mouth and my goals would be the first thing I saw while making a coffee. I rubbed them off when I completed the tasks. Eventually I rubbed off stop drinking and quit smoking.

Now I use the blackboard for remembering shopping and telling Sarah she needs to clean the kitchen in her underwear.

See failure as part of the process not a reason to give it up, when I first started hitting on HB10's I had some real put downs that did make think I'm not cut out for this, I should pack it in. I learnt from the experience rather than being put off by it, in some ways I welcomed rejection because I saw this as a greater challenge to deal with rather than if a girl rolled on her back and opened her legs. (metaphorically speaking)

Since then I've had some really stunning girlfriends because I persisted past the point where it was easier to quit. My current girlfriend is absolutely stunning I often look at her naked and wonder how the fuck I managed to get her.

In short and in my opinion.

Your goals are too long you are setting yourself up for a fall.
I don't think even I could stick to something for three years. Keep your tasks in smaller time frames, 4 weeks, 90 days and a year. If you have bigger goals then sure extend to 3 years. Stick to a handful of goals in shorter period 90 days is good. You’ll see success quicker which will inspire you. There is nor reason you can't add more later

Focus completely, immerse yourself in it. You don't have to become a nerd like I was but maybe don't buy anymore computer games for say a month and use that time to move closer to a goal.

Don't let failure bring you down anyone in sales will understand this, if you are getting a hundred no's you have to remain positive keep going otherwise the cycle will continue.

Celebrate successes. Each time I got a number and she flakeed I didn't think fuck I got blown out, think fuck she was beautiful she turned down three guys that night and gave me her number, Yeh, result!!!

Finally as we are using the example. The PUA industry sells a product based on lies and false claims that basically says if you stick with it you can get Kelly brook lookalikes, but the twist in the tale is it’s also true, apart having blonde hair my girl is just as attractive. Success is down to the indivual thats what they don't tell you.

To close how badly do you want it? A goal, a girl or whatever. If you're only half bothered you'll fail, I really wanted a model looking girl because in my previous chump day my girls had been very plain.

It is a very good post I'd like to see lots more views and solutions to goal setting.

Don’t think about rejection shouldn’t even enter your head, don’t think about it, just do it, no hesitations. Talk to her.

It’s the only way to get good

Cheers Knave thats great advice
I see after reading your thread 3 year goals may be a bit far off and 2 long term, rather than a more short term target is more realistic and gives you more of a boost to keep pushing when you achieve it.
Ive just watched some of "David de angelo`s man transformation",he talks about getting leverage on yourself to achieve goals ie give your best friend a cheque for a grand and say if i dont check in with you a minimum of 3 times a week saying ive gone to the gym and worked out for an hour then cash it!!! as a simple example of this idea.
I know this potentially can be easily fiddled but if your serious about it,i feel it could be a good way to get your ass of the couch!!
Right im gona head up town and grab a black board

Lovefish, fuck writing cheques, goto the gym, start EASY, take a notebook, have targets for each session, slowly ramping up the pace, every time you hit your targets each week, reward yourself with mcdonalds. failure to go to gym = you have to eat rabbit food for a year

I know that was just an stupid example of getting leverage over yourself is all.
See even saying ill go gym hit targets and if i do well i can have a macs is still an example of getting leverage!!
But yeh ive got a note book and will start easy for the first month and build from there.
I cant afford gym this month but am doing the pre set work out routines from an awsome book by "Charle Bronson Solitary Fitness" so thats where im gona start and next month ill hit the gym 2

Yes knave a good post very imformative.

As you might know my goal is to bench 300 pounds im up to 246 pounds i put 270 on i thought fuck thats heavy even 246 would be heavy for the average guy on the street and Phil no more about what you can bench thats history now hee.

I think the power of the mind is very important i remember in my squash playing days there was a kid that i used to hammer a proper thrashing i would give him he had loads of lessons played for the club but i thought his technical abilty foot placemen the way he holds the racket was excellent and he will be some player in the near future and he was 6ft 5 a great advantage in squash.

I told a club mate he will be in league one in six months he laughed the kid had a growth spurt then he was awesome he would crush most of the guys in the club when i played him i suddenly i got injured as i wont give him the satisfaction ha ha i want that memory of him crying when i destroyed him 9.0 9.0 9.1 but its a very cut throat game folks,

goal setting is good we must not stagnate as life is not a rehearsal .
