Atleast part of the reason for what you are talking about is down to the fact that alot of dudes that brought and read The Game were just looking for Social Rohypnol. A quick fix to their 'woman' woes. A one size fits all rinse and repeat template for unlocking any pussy any time any where.
Most of us blokes are naturally systems thinkers. We apply tests and tend to expect quantifable measurable results that will allow us to evaluate the vailidty of a given statement or system or principal.
But Social dynamics don't work like that. HUMANS don't work like that. Every bloke is different every woman is different. And yet most blokes I know that have read The Game claim (with full confidence) that it's a
'load of bollocks' what they REALLY mean is
'I told a girl she had man hands or that her nose wiggles when she laughs, just like it said in the game and she didn't fuck me'.
It's a question of conditioning. Some guys have a genuine interest in learning in general and improving ourselves in various regards. The guys that read The Game and then flaked weren't really interested in learning how social interactions and human beings work or improving themselves in other 'all round' regards (i.e mental/physical/professional health etc) all they wanted was a quick fix and they quit when they realised reading The Game wasn't going to be one.
