So I read Blancas thread on how he's not happy about his hometown and started to look to move to Manchester for brighter things. I was really impressed with how he took a risk and put it all on the line. Fair enough it didnt work out for him this time but he did try.

Im facing a similar predicament myself. One of my main loves and passions in life is my Martial Arts. I train a lot of MMA & Brazilian JiuJitsu (BJJ) around Leeds and W. Yorkshire. Whilst the training facilites round here are good there is an amazing training facility in Mansfield where my Head BJJ coach is based (around 1.5hr drive). Its not feasible to make the drive everyday and in my current job I work shift patterns which makes some weeks impossible to train.

The guys who have been training in Mansfield have had some of the best sucess rates at competitions in both grappling and MMA. A friend of mine has been training there a few times a week for the past 18 months and his skill level has increased at a phenomenal rate.

The way I see it is that iron forges iron and steel sharpens steel. To be the best you need to train with the best. You cant train with the puppies and then expect to run with the wolves.

So what im saying is that I want in on this super amazing training and for me I believe the best thing to do is to find a job down there, up sticks and find myself a house/flat share, therefore allowing myself to commit to 5-6 training sessions a week with some very high level coaches and therefore becoming an awesome super mega phenom.

I was wondering if any of you guys have any similar experiences or faced somewhat similar predicaments as mine and how it went, wether it was good or bad. Any advice any of you might have would be appriciated. Thanks!

just do it mate. anything you do in life will lead you to happiness if your a positive person. even if any bad does come from it, a balance of good stuff will to.

Weird but.. I live a mile outside of Mansfield, and I work in Mansfield..

Wasn't aware its so great for training though.. I've been wanting to take up some form of martial art but not sure which.. I just know one day I want to train with samaurai swords..

If you are doing something you truly have a passion for then it doesn't matter about anything else.

Happiness is a choice. If you choose to take in only the bad then you will feel bad. If you choose to treat everything as good (even the bad is a learning experience) you will be happy.

This is true whether you live in London, Devon or Bradford.

I quite a job where I was earning £35k a year to work in a College for nearly half the pay. I am miles happier because I live by the sea so I get to run along the seafront most days, go surfing at evenings and weekends and though I have to watch my pennies a bit but I'm happier and more relaxed. I make my pennies go further as well now.

If you look at High Flying Business owners, they all have a similair mentatlity of taking risks, if you look at People like Arnie he took some big risks, moved countries etc

Its true some of the most success people in the world are the biggest risk takers I'm not talking about sticking your mortgage on red in a casino, although maybe, lets face it 50/50 split. hmmmm

The other factor that is common in the successful is when it all goes tits up. Look at business people that have been made bankrupt and still come back. Alan sugar pulled honself back from financial ruin.

Take the risk but know what steps to take if it doesn't work out.

I agree with the above, particularly Phil's comment.

I know several athletes who have built their home and life around their sport, some of whom are professionals, some of whom are amateurs. Makes things so much simpler and easier.

There is also something called survivorship bias to that in that you only hear about the best and the worst of the people. Those that fail are soon forgotten about and those that succeed...well you see/hear about them all the time. For every successful business you've heard of, there are another 9 that failed that you have never heard of.
That said, nothing should stop you following a dream/idea whatever that is..be it moving country, city, job, new hobbies. At least you can say you tried whatever the outcome.
