Chops - I usually like your postings but this, I'm afraid, is not one of them.

I get a craving for a pint on a Friday after working a long week....so this makes me an alcoholic according to your definition?!

If you craved alcohol first thing in the morning then yes, these are the first signs of alcoholism.

I class an alcoholic as somone that drinks to constantly hide the pain they feel inside.

I could never understand why somone could become an alcholic until:

When i was severely depressed, project managing a 23million turnover company relocate and my mother was in hospital with a ruptured appendix
i started to drink heavily to drown out the feelings i was having and the stress, i would wake up in the middle of the night and down half a bottle of wine and get back into bed.

i only drink moderately now-- same with my drug use

maybe I'm over-reacting cos come to think of it I get a craving for drum and bass on a Friday.

thing is I've got a drink problem and so does my mum and brother.

I just hate the drink culture in the uk. If you tell someone you don't drink they look at you like you told them you fuck kids.

Its funny you mention drinking to drown out the pain..
I've been feeling shitty sometimes lately due to just turning single, and every time I open the fridge there are beers there, and its like, my mind just wants me to drink them all. I choose not to though..
