It is still you but a different non-chode you. To be successful several qualities are required. Physical fitness is a good one. Not letting people push you around is another. Being happy and having plans and liking things -all important. Respecting and appreciating othr people -quite important. Giving and taking. Making your own reality how you want it.

I hate that overused saying 'just be yourself'.

Why is there such an obsession with holding onto the kind of person you are now? Why is there such a reluctance to better one self?

What if someone is a paedophile (extreme example I know) should we say just keep raping kids because that's who you are, just be yourself; even if it's a kiddy-fiddling rapist!

I'm a very lazy guy, that's who I am. But I also want to be healthy and have a good body, should I just not exercise because deep down who I am is a lazy person, and doing anything against that would be betraying 'my true self'.

From the great words of Neil Strauss, people should not try to be themselves, but instead try to be 'their best self'.

Self improvement is a good thing, and always looking how you can better yourself and help those around you is an admirable quality; even if it goes against what you consider to be 'yourself'.

Rant over!

As other posters have said, there is no 'true self' or underlying self awaiting ignition. Self improvement doesn't entail becoming who you really are, it involves changing who you actually are. I agree that the adage 'be yourself' is misleading if you take it as a literal translation. Generally I think it refers to not attempting to be someone else on the basis of trying to please another. Only a PUA guide advising you to dress like a cosplay fanatic would recommend that.

being yourself IS for some people bullshit.

finding yourself is usually much better advice.

the reason this would be an advantage is it frees up mental capacity for other things.

the concept of self is an ilusion you are a product of your environment. If the things you do increase replication/survival likelyhood it will become part of who you are.
I haven't posted on here in ages I have reached my goal (blame Doyal for pming me). But this is complete rubbish.

You should be yourself, but the phrase actually should be "be your best self". Only if you are 100% you will you succeed as if you arnt the same person every encounter you will fail, and the only we to ensure that is to be yourself from the very first minute.

No no no
Its all about weilding the power of the force!

When you start the epic journey to become a Jedi, your force- biofield, Aura constantly reflects your new self and this is what the chicks pick up on-- so even tho you learned to Neg 4 months ago and now you are stood there having a normal conversation with no negs--your biofield is generated with the extra confidence negging gave you.

to break it down to ultra basica levels -- animals can feel your biofield and therfore know when youa re fearful of them because the energy you give off reflects this thought process.

see..genius
