Not what you do but how you do it. As long as you dont come across like your trying to buy her affections it doesnt matter. As long as it comes across as no big deal, if your not thinking about it, shes not thinking about it.

My ex. I paid for fucking everything. I bought her £160 prom dress, then the day before her prom, I find out she was cheating on me! I bought her a £180 phone for our "year anniversary". I paid for her clothes, cinema, bus, food, drinks, it was stupid.

Now I grown some balls and live in balance and equality instead.

Its only supplication if you make a show of it i.e. "here let me get this" or "dont worry I'll pay", just rock up and hand over cash/card while talking about something else.

This is exactly what I do if its just a cinema ticket then I reduce it's value so much it loses any impact on her she might have, 'ah its nothing, a few pounds'

You watch a film, enjoy, but she feels a little cheated even though you paid for it, because you said it was nothing. She still had a good time.

A meal is a different story altegether, don't be a tight arse but don't be like the AFC and make her think your buying a free pass into her pants.

I don't pay for shit exept rounds. I usually try to get them to buy me a drink. Fact is I'm earning minimum wage and can't afford to pay simple as that.

The best one is you pay first then say "it's your round".

True but that was a very valuable lesson I learned from that experience.

I never paid for anything with my ex. I was an undergrad with no money and she was a post-grad (with some funding at least!)
Once things pick up, it makes sense to surprise her (like a silly rhyming line on paper wrapped around her favourite chocolate bar and posted to her or a bunch of flowers) but the value there is the thought, not the 60p (obv).
If the payment question pops up awkwardly on mutual occasions like dinner or movies, I think rounds - what chop147 said - is the way to go.
If she's got a job or anywhere near as much income as you, princess is only getting one-way hugs and kisses!!
