If you think about it, in caveman times, the provider and the lover would have been exactly the same person. The alpha would have been the person best equipped to provide.
In today's less harsh world it's not necessary to be an alpha to provide, but the argument is that we haven't changed that much biologically. It's a contradictory theory then.

This sums up the whole Indirect vs Direct argument for me. Read this in some
app today:
When approaching a stranger, decide beforehand if you're going to be more direct or indirect in your approach. Let the situation guide you. It doesn't make sense to sprint after someone at your local mall, only to ask their opinion. Go direct when the situation dictates. Always ask yourself, "What's situationally relevant here?
