There is some useful resources there, but only if you can hold back the vomit from all the circle jerking that goes on. I dont know how you put up with it Jay.

I ignore it altogether or get into arguments that involve 500 people clicking a little down arrow while telling me I'm wrong.
Reminding myself that I'm having a political/social debate with someone that often isn't even old enough to vote , or is only going to be able to vote for the first time shortly is often enough to get through the bs. There are however some fantastic people that frequent the site too, generally over 25. I understand that makes me a bit of a hypocrit, not even being from that age demographic. But I do speak generally.
The problem with reddit is that, while the actual spread of users is incredibly diverse and often full of very intelligent people it suffers from the same problem the offline world suffers from - idiots are often the largest group and like to shout the loudest.. We've all seen pub debates right? "I AM LOUDER THEREFORE I AM RIGHT" sort of behaviour?
I avoid going deep into comment threads that are clearly going downhill. 3 deep is often enough.
The subs I moderate are full of some rather extreme rules, especially compared to other subreddits, we police them extremely heavily to ensure the bullshit that happens on the rest of reddit doesn't infect us. As a result we've got some of the most loyal users on reddit. I'm pretty confident in saying that /r/relationships is probably the best place on the internet for people to get proper advice.. Though that's a bit bias, I have faith in our community and often it's spot on.
tl;dr: Patience and practice. It probably helps that I was originally a digger, there was a lot of hate sent our way when we had the exodus a year ago which I think immunised me to reddit's bs.
