I've always found some of the terminology in pick up (even the phase itself) a bit weird and at odds with the social side of pick up.
It makes things seem cold and like a scientific process rather than going and chatting up women.

I was talking to Theo (don't know his forum name or if he's even on here) and he called it "creepy pick up guy talk", I like to think of it as "spastic gay talk" (that's nicked from a Frankie Boyle joke about being politically correct)

I don't mind it on forums because it cuts down on the amount of typing but using it in conversation I find a bit weird, I try not to sometimes I do but I feel a bit of a dick when I do.

"I was out sarging and I started neging my target this HB10 and blew away a AFC in a set who was trying to close her, I was DHVing, kinoing and getting ioi's. This AMOG tried it on but I used an AMOG destroyer on him and then I show soi and K closed and then #closed the target"

If any normal person heard this they would think they were talking about a computer game or a business deal.

Isn't the idea to be able to discuss this publically, like they all used to do when out sarging or doing workshops, without the target/set cottoning on that they were part of someone running game? Then who gives a toss if it sounds like a video game

But, I definitely understand where you're coming from on this personally; I never use it, because no-one else I know personally deals with Pick-Up.

My cousin is a natural, and you wouldn't think it to look at his large frame, but we peacock frequently and work different sides, naturally. He does this without ever having researched pick-up as far as I know...

Before I knew what peacocking was, I would do it naturally, among other things which have only now been researched upon by me, and explained in the form of these terms and acronyms...

Hmm, well it might not have been the term I used at the time, but the idea was the same; you look cool to stand out, you stand out to be different, you want to be different to be noticed, and are technically still doing this for the same reason; you are still demonstrating survival value, regardless.

In any case, it was something I did naturally, changing my way of doing so depending on however I changed myself...

I mistook your definition of cool to mean different, as opposed to aesthetically pleasing to oneself, and that is the healthier attitude to have.

I wear what I wear to look different for a reason. Everyone else with the same "background" as me, all dresses the same... It's not part of my culture, or my persona, but there are many overlaps between who I am and many other cultures, so I have bits and pieces from everywhere...

have been guilty of saying some of these terms in regular conversations with non-PUA people and then realise what i said and hope that none of them picked up on it.

Using pickup language so others can here you is kinda asking for it. But it has a functional purpose when quietly talking to your wing or when online, it makes it quicker and easier to talk about.

surly understanding the terminology and putting it into practice is what separates the AFCs from the PUAs ?
