Default Pimp my... err well.. ME! - 04-08-2009, 02:03 PM

Hi all,

well I've been watching a load of stuff recently (as i do), and I've been really impressed with the VH1 show "the pick-up artist", not because it's uses any methodology in particular (as the manc boys know i read everyone's theories and try and embrace all) but it talks about the theory and then show's it in field, which i think a lot of the DVD's lack. I'm the type of person that needs to see something done before it registers in my head, especially when describing some of these techniques like body language.

So i've decided to embrace Mystery Method and try and just run with that for a while. I've already had the style consultant round (just over a month ago, before I'd even made this decision about MM) and have loads of new cloths which are awesome. You've also seen my other post about grooming which i picked up on off the TV show, so I'm actually buying peacocking items and lock in props at the moment. Bought a really cool pendant off ebay and a tool for measuring the size of your fingers so i can purchase some rings (never worn a ring before so no idea what sizes to buy). As a lock in prop i'm thinking of buying a hat and was wondering on recommendations (not cowboy as i don't think it would work with me), more on the lies of Trilby or Panama.

Any thoughts on cool hats guys?
Any thoughts on other lock in in props to take out?

Cheers

Retro

To be honest I don't think you need to worry about Pimping yourself up so that you can stand out. If you have your inner game completely locked down that's all that matters, who cares what you are wearing.

I agree, wearing clothes that you feel comfortable and good in can increase your confidence. If you wear something you don't feel all that comfortable in, you will feel abit of a dick and you could come across looking abit of a dick to others. Therefore choose clothes/accessories that compliment your own personality, physique, general tastes/styles.

Have a style that is congruent to who you are and play to those strengths where you can. If you've seen season 1 of the 'pick up artist' don't go down the route that guy Fred did, being 45 and feeling he needed to dress younger he just ended up looking like abit of a clown. Pick a style that is you i.e. 'Retro' nobody else but your own.

And to answer your question about hats, I think trilbys are pretty cool I have one and I like to sport it every now and then.

Lock in props; I'm not too sure to be honest. If you feel you could pull off a feather boa outside of canal street then go for it!! but to be honest mate, correct me if im wrong but I don't think thats you.

I'm not trying to go outside of my own style.. If you look at Season two, then each person had their own unique image done, but had interesting highlights in there own appearance. A couple of the guys used hats, a lot of piercings (not going down that route as it isn't me), etc. It's just something to add that extra bit of interesting look to compliment the already awesome clothes, plus i really liked it when they used the hats to put on a girls head as like a trust thing to keep her there... wouldn't mind trying that a few times

Trust me, the rings will be my style (classy and not tacky).. its all good.

cheers for the input on the hat.. i'll have a look in Manchester at weekend to try some out.

Nice one mate. Topman is pretty good for hats at a reasonable price.

You might want to try some of the vintage shops down oldham st, where night and day is and afflecks might have some crazy ones too if you are after something a little different

Yea - I like the subtle style.

Afflecks palace is probably a good place for the over the top style.

For the subtle style, I think kowalski is probably a good man to ask - that t-shirt with the heart is slick!

I am personally pretty awful at shopping and style to be honest. Few of the clothes I wear show my personality (perhaps I could stick a badge on?). Buying from the internet (in my experience) leads to ill-fitting shirts etc.

Retro-
I think fasion is important in this shallow world we live in, it only takes 3 seconds for someone to decide if they like you or not!

also women are so clued up on fasion, its better to spend more money on quality clothes, or buy some awesome clothes that you just go out in like levis or diesel...etc

when you put them on they seem to have a effect .... like I'm in te mood whey hey.

also their is diffrent colour clothes to that suit your skin type!

It also depends on the place you go, if you go to a rock club but your wearing shoes, shirt and a jacket you might look out of place.
Recently I've gone for more a subdued look just a plain coloured T-shirt, jeans and trainer/deck shoe things, apart from a leather jacket which I now wear with a hoody underneath, so I don't look too 80's.
Also size is very important! If anything go too small rather than too big (apart from cock size) unless your going for a hip hop look. I makes your body look scrawnier if things are too big.
