Sorry I'm not getting your point. What I said in not based on some theory or speculation - its what I know works after refining my approach through 4 years or so of intensive pimping on just about every major dating site out there.

If you pick the moment right, which is generally after 2-4 message exchanges over as many days it works 95%+ of the time (for me anyway). I guess it does take some experience to get a good instinct for the exact right moment but going for it on your reply to her 2nd message is a good default starting point.

I meant if you guve her your number she is left with the choices of:
- ignore it
- text you
- ring you back
- give you her number and expect a call.

ignore it is unlikely, text is possible, ring you back is the least likely IMO, but equally if you do it too soon, she might feel compelled that she has to do one of the choices above and the last 3 imply that she is already interested enough.

You seem to be over analysing the whole situation - here's a 5 step guide on how to get an internet date (I dont guarantee the quality):

1 - get a good profile pic of yourself and write a a humourous and honest about me section, google can give advice about writing one (i say go funny)

2 - message like you you've never messaged, its a game of numbers, some people will just delete, some people will respond, some people dont even check their accounts. Make sure the message is fun, light and asks a flirty question so you get a response

3 - after initial contact keep the flirty vibe, then I always find the best way to set a frame is ask in message 2 or 3 whereabouts they live and say something like "I could never meet you for a drink there, I'd be stabbed" or "... ...,I don't own a tux"

4 - If you're still being fun they'll laugh and say it "isn't that bad, blah blah blah" you reply with "where is nice to drink? flirty flirt flirt..." they say "Flirt... The Cows Udder" you say "great meet you there on Xday and Y o'clock"

5 - Exchange numbers, text a little fluff then meet!

Proffessionals often use internet dating - doctors, business owners because they work long hours and want somone of a similair calibre to date rather than some scrote who talks to them in a bar.

also Facebook ..... is massive, literally everyone has a facebook page now so anyone you could meet in a bar or a club or asda you can equally as easily approach through facebook.
