Interesting you should bring guys into the equation. I find it amusing talking to some guys about 'how to get the girl'. Guys seem to assume a certain level of expertise even though they have only a couple of stories to reference and these were probably a couple of girls that let them get away with being the 'nice guy'. I know I've been guilty of this.
