Yeh unfortunately you do get people who can't let go of their ego and do silly stuff like dropping people on their heads. Letting go of the ego is a massive part of it, most of the time rolling should be about learning rather than winning.

Absolutely right conditioning is soooo important. If you're tired you get caught in all kinds of shit that would never happen if you were fresh. With some fundamentals + good conditioning even relative beginners can be a real handful.

For MMA I would say the most important things to get good in first are:
Takedowns, positioning, sub-defence.

If you want some inspiration for training I suggest:

Cool vid Niknak!

Awesome week at MMA!

Did my first proper sparring on Monday and held my own. I seem to be a very boring fighter though. My technique usually involves pushing them against the cage or sitting on my opponent!

Last night we just worked on technique which was really useful and less scary! Shoulder is a bit fucked so was quite glad about this.

That guy that dropped me on my head is a bit of a douche I think (you would have thought the whole head dropping would have made me realise this). I teamed up with him on Monday to do pads, went to get some gloves and he went off with someone else. I said what the hell are you doing and the other guy was the one that invited me in to work as a 3. Teamed up with another dude last night and he wouldn't even talk to me. Weird! Everyone else is cool though.

Good lessons this week!

Wed
Hour of Bulgarian bags and hour and a half of kick-boxing. Learnt some cool arse kicks and improved my kicking form loads. Will be useful for MMA lessons.

Thurs
Hour of circuits and hour and half of MMA (grappling). We also did a hour of circuits and other exercises tonight before I learnt any moves. I was on another planet, but felt good.

Learnt three important things for grappling.
1)Relax!!
2)Getting good position works in stages. I have been trying to go straight from guard to mounted or side position and end up getting no where. I am quite strong so sometimes my brute force works, but technique wise it is better to keep edging forward, when they get tired/lose grip etc slip into more dominant position and so on until you have real dominant position.
3)Control their hips when they have guard on and you control them.

Yeh I found top game you gotta keep good posture in guard & when passing / past guard keep low and heavy - unless there's a scramble on of course.

Bottom game it's just the opposite - when in guard you should be constantly active with pressure through sub attempts / sweep attempts or the threat of standing up, so that they can never get comfortable or see what's coming next. Escaping is the same, constant pressure with hip bumps, foot drags etc.
