1. Should I have gone back and given it another go (if so, how should I have approached it) ?

my op: Probably, you made a good confident approach and left her with a lasting impression... you know where she works, so you know your Target Location, you can always go back, although i wouldnt rush, and id make sure you have a water-tight reason to go, just incase it doesnt pan out, you can retain your frame that way.

2. Should I put it down to experience and say I should have closed the first time

my op: yes, to quote someone, cant remember who exactly "experience is what you get when you dont get what you want" - you've got good experience here, and by having another attempt, win or lose, you will get even more experience!

Otherwise, Good Work pal, by constantly making approaches your confidence will grow and show!
