I don't think its pointless at all, in the same way you would reprimand a child you discourage incorrect behaviour. Every other person who's introduced themselves or even posted politely I've tried to help. This guy had posted about 4 times on random threads with random comments without even announcing or introducing himself, something I find quite rude so forgive me for not welcoming him with open arms.
And Ian Beale was ginger, and therefore had no soul. You could be onto something there...
