By using magic or other such gimmicks you are essentially creating a social crutch because you do not believe in the quality of your personality or conversation.

I have employed things like this in the past, I used to enjoy palm reading as you could get a little kino going but what happens when your trick is finished? or you've read their palm? you've performed your monkey trick? you have to move on to that conversation that you have no confidence in.

By the time I felt I had developed into somebody who was socially awesome/confident I no longer used those tricks, just confidence in my charming personality.

THat said it is always attractive to have good hobby/skill. I play the ukulele, read palsm and a few other things I do because I enjoy them not because they impress girls. They do however crop up in conversation and act as another element in that girl being attracted to you but not as the underlying reason.
