Getting played quite often -

I've had about 8 different girls play me in the past month or so.
Apart from those 8, I've had a few other girls not phone me back as well.
I won't go into each situation. But one thing I think I'm neglecting is comfort/rapport. I keep thinking why is it so important? How much of this is needed before she is atleast comfortable enough to meet up with me?
Are phone and facebook conversation good for building comfort? I'd rather not do this becuase I hate talking on the phone and facebook...welll...it's not the same, you have more time to calculate your responses online and people know this, so any effect when trying to get rapport is probably "watered down".
This used to be something I was good at. Conversation, rapport and comfort. But since I started focusing on flirting and humour I've become shit at it.
