I agree, once emotion is in full flow it is more about going with it, allowing it. Tolle says acknowledge it and in doing so make space between yourself nd the emotion. THe best way to deal is to experience the emotion and then you can control urself better the next time you exprience it. Like drug intake. Its important to know that you and the emotion are two things. You are not 'Anger' you are a conciousness expriencing anger. You can repress feelings but they will twist you up inside if you dont deal with them. Much like memories of bad experiences, its by facing them that you condition a reduced response to them. However, it is possible to cheer up when in a bad mood by thinking positive thoughts etc.
