I think the premise of language use shaping our lives is mostly accurate. Its a major contributing factor anyhow and phrasing and tonality really makes a difference to othr people's reactions. When you say to some girl 'feel that rising tension' she will really feel something. saying 'dont feel that rising tension' would probably have a very similar effect. If you said 'relax and feel tension wash from your body' that would be the true mental opposite.
