Default Popular Psychology (DHV) that Isn't Bullshit - 05-05-2009, 07:46 AM

Hi all,

I studied psychology, and do have an interest in human behaviour and psychology.

Lots of PUA material mention using the social stuff as material for DHV. Eg, Style's / Mystery's routines - 'mind / hand reading, the cube'...

My problem is that I think much of the popular psychology stuff out there is utter bullshit (ie, not based on substantial evidence), so I don't really talk about it too much in-set. But then I miss out an area which I'm interested in, and an area which others find interesting.

Eg, "women are naturally selected to be more choosey with a partner, because they have a higher investment in reproduction. Reproduction has more of a ‘cost’ – 9 months of pregnancy, risky act of childbirth - so they have evolved to become more choosey. Men are less choosey, because all they loose is a chunk of sperm, so they have evolved to be more promiscuous….. That is why you were naturally cynical when I approached, and that's why I approached....." Christ!!! Who wants to hear this?!!!

I wonder if you guys have any thoughts on this - any recommendations on more decent social / psychology material? Or ways of approaching it without bastardising science, or bastardising my game?

I often find myself talking about social stuff in-set - it makes sense I guess, I opened an interaction, they can give some feedback - we have something in common!

Weird you mention this

I recall getting into a conversation about psychology with a girl, at the time it was spontaneous and looking back it would I suppose be a DHV, which I've used it again and when I have it’s almost always gone down well.

I used to be a student of psychology myself; I even wanted to be a therapist at one point. But the problem is with depressed people especially, people love to moan. They will tell you what they thinks wrong and they go into their own head and bring up all the negative thoughts and end up making themselves feel bad again doing, its as if talking about it validates it.

What I've decided to instead is if someone’s feeling depressed. Change their mind. Show them a good time. Put them into a good and show them feeling good is easy. I’m not saying it can help people with real serious disorders but for your friends and the people you want to help I think that’s exactly what you should do.

But yes, If I'm talking about psychology in set its usually on how to feel good. A favourite topic of mine
