Default Perception of time - 19-05-2011, 05:16 PM

Has anyone here ever felt like time is running out? I don't mean in a deathly way, or in a sense of "time flies".

What I mean is, like when you are going to begin a task, such as learning to code in PHP for example. And I begin to start reading, applying and learning, but I get this inner sense of running out of time. I get this frustration that by learning PHP, I won't have any chance at all to ever learn C++.

It sounds insane, but that's the best way I can think of to describe the inner feeling. It feels more like, a subconscious feeling than something I would actually consciously THINK ABOUT.

Maybe it is my mind trying to secretly procrastinate, by trying to get me to stop the task at hand?

How can time run out when time doesn't exist?

Yeah I used to get that.

I take more breaks, structure my learning, and set out goals / learning objectives for the day.

Solved.

Ps. Note on setting goals: Whatever I think I can do in a day, I half it.

I don't feel like doing anything right now. I'm not being lazy, I just feel so weary. I think I need to do nothing so I can tackle this horrible guilt tripping monkey on my back; the voice in my head that's always putting me down.

Structure... goals... I don't have any time for them right now. I'm completely demotivated.

Time seems to be completely perception, if youre present and paying attention and you remember events vividly then time slows. If you're not paying much attention, not memorising clearly, when you look back on what just happened it seems to have flown through with great speed. Agree with roody, the only time that really exists is the present moment.

But with relation to learning new things, my example being programming but could be anything, does anyone ever get that inside gut feeling like you don't have enough time to learn enough, so I get a wierd feeling and try to move on to learning something else before I master the first thing...

I like the idea of setting myself some goals in small stages

@Mccpcorn I'm in that same space at the moment too, bro. I did a only half-joking thread on procrastination last week in this psychology sub-forum.

Al_phaD, sounds to me like u are fully absorbed in the task -- occasionally tedious -- of learning more about a language. Stick with it! U doing great. Meanwhile some of us are GENUINELY procrastinating and floundering with TO DO lists.

int ProgPUAs = 0;
for (int x = TotalPUAs; x >= 0; x--)
{
if ( PUA[x] == Programmer ) ProgPUAs++;
}
if (ProgPUAs == TotalPUAs) Print("Thought So");
