MASTER PUA

Default The PUA with a Thousand Faces (Part One) - 22-05-2009, 02:31 PM

My bodacious brethren.

Been reet busy of late. Between making a fiat wage, fb taming, spartan training and front kicking Persians into black hole oblivion, there is a debt of Sync shaped holes in the panties of many a Manni wench. However, it’s been worth getting my fingers in some seriously sticky pies and the oven timer, it’s a tickin…

…mmmm… pie. The key, I think, to the superior pie, crumbly but good, is noticing how each stage in makin and bakin the pie builds upon the last. Many would tempt the focus of your priorities with the quality of ingredients, while others still may evoke unorthodox but effective baking technique as the soul of fine pastries. Undoubtedly, there is both process and content, and their successful union at each and every stage is irrefutably delicious.

All the world’s a stage and one man in his time plays many parts. Shakespeare said that, or was it Bacon? I forgot to remember. A stage is a place of stories. The Vedas of old perceived reality as just stories, you know. Simply, the interlacing footprints of the many manifestations of the observer - if you want to create a path you must walk it. However, if you, like me, have a wandering wondering mind, what would it be like if, in the bliss of simply being, there was a pattern within patterns.

Follow your bliss, was the summation of his teachings. A precocious and engaging young man, Joseph Campbell was and is a true champion of myth and story and his legacy is a tale of fascination and study with all the worlds’ legends, sagas and dreams. Expertly and with passion Campbell distilled from the myriad of footprints in the past, and from the same ones that we intuitively follow today, the story of stories. The Hero’s Journey.

So if life is but a dream then you find yourself in mine. If you can overcome the exotic delights and exposed flesh then join me in walking a path. Where are we going? Where the Heroes of PUA have gone before.

(For the sake of simplicity and narration, I have adapted these stages from a generalised version of the original process (links at the bottom); I hope this will motivate you to access it through your own research in all its glorious depth)

1 - The Ordinary World

The AFC finds himself in the mundane world, where everything is status quo. Flowers, Dinner, Supplication and getting lucky. Everything seems ok, and that’s just the problem. However, there could be something more. You can’t quite articulate it yet, but you just get this nagging feeling, maybe it’s you, or maybe it’s everyone else, but the opposite sex can’t be just about this…

2 – The Call to Adventure

The AFC is ill at ease. .All this time, the nagging feeling that something’s not quite right, that something needs to change, that there could be more, is now prominent. There have been others who have had more, he’s seen it, even heard stories of them, men who have more. By accepting the message of the ordinary world the AFC can now consciously become aware of the message.

This conscious awareness always comes about from one of two processes.

A) Accepting and embracing the pain of something in your life that you’re no longer willing to accept and therefore you must move out of your old world.

B) The pleasure of a new goal, which will thrust you into The Hero’s Journey.

Whatever treasure you seek, this is your call to adventure.

3 – Refusal of the Call

Sometimes, the AFC refuses the call. The plight of his story and drama are too painful. To move in to the unknown would mean madness and unbearable pain. (All you lurkers in this forum, read close) The AFC feels it is better to try and accept his situation by becoming emotionally numb to it.

This is called the inauthentic state. It’s called that because your truth buried deep within you knows better, hence the conflict. You have the resources and you are worthy of the treasure you seek.

This is a choice point for the hero. To accept or continue to refuse. The call will never stop because you can’t unknown what you know. So he must continue to refuse the call. This is when a hero starts to die inside.

4 – The Wise Mentor / Supernatural Aid

Something strange happens when the AFC genuinely and authentically commits.

When the student is ready the teacher will appear. It’s like the knowledge the AFC needs to progress is inexplicably thrust before him but it is always his responsibility to use it and move forward.

A wise mentor might appear in the form of a person, a book, a divx video, a forum, friends and wings, boot camps, whatever.

5 – Crossing the First Threshold (The Field)

This is where shit gets real, fast.

You’ve committed to leaving behind the Ordinary World and stepping into the New World of your Hero’s Journey. The AFC MUST cross the threshold between the world he is familiar with and that which he is not.

At this point, you WILL feel out of place. Look for it. You will feel uncomfortable, inexperienced and vulnerable in crossing this boundary between the know and unknown

Often this involves facing a "threshold guardian", an entity that works to keep all within the protective confines of the ordinary world but must be encountered in order to enter the new.

This mofucker is going to test if you’re serious and the currency a threshold guardian deals in is commitment, nothing less.

They may come in the form of naysayers, who must be ignored ; by task setters who must be met with hard work ; by items or people who must be left behind to travel in to the unknown ; the voices and visions of fears and doubts within yourself that must be overcome regardless of the pain they promise.

Once the AFC has proven his worth and commitment can he pass the threshold guardian and venture into the unknown.

For most AFC’s the unknown is “the field.” All those things that prevent him from stepping out into the field all come from the guardian.

6 – Belly of the Whale / In to the New World

The price of crossing the threshold does not come cheap. You as you were could not have done it. Rather than passing the threshold as you were your commitment has transformed you. In crossing the threshold the AFC is reborn.

Once in the New World in pursuit of treasure, the PUA must learn percieves new rules, new places and that things work differently in this new world. Though he as yet does not understand them, he must and does accept them to move onward.

7 – The Road as Trials / Helpers & Challengers

Once past the threshold, and into the new world, the PUA encounters a dream landscape of ambiguous and fluid forms.

The PUA is challenged to survive a succession of obstacles that he glimpsed in the previous stage. This is where he encounters resistance. Resistance is required to grow, just like growing a muscle. Skills, talents and abilities are tested, stretched and developed in the New World. The challenges will test your limits, but every time you surmount them you grow, and every time you don’t, you learn and sharpen your game.

Fortunately, more help is at hand for this new challenge.

As the PUA faces his challenges he attracts other heroes on similar journeys in the new world. The others recognise his focus and mission and identify with it as the same that burns within them. These men of worth draw together to bring different resources to each others mission so that they can succeed at conquering their own personal challenges, which they must face alone, in the new world.

The more the PUA is stretched the higher and more rewarding the challenges and stakes become. These are all preparation for the biggest test of all. The next threshold will be even stronger than the first Threshold Guardians that was faced down

Something’s coming.

Something serious…

I find that the esotericism of different cultures has a magnanimity that I envy and attempt to reproduce it in matters of human ubiquity...

…and shit.

Well spotted.

But remember the mentor can be a shapeshifter!! So don't trust your mentor too much, they may later come to threaten you and challenge the new skills you have learnt!
