Question VMware help - 17-05-2012, 06:07 PM

Hi guys this is a bit of a long shot but I'm looking for somebody who uses/has used VMware servers.

I have installed a helpdesk server application for logging and tracking requests that come into our department.

Now the software itself works fine, you can personalize it and it runs brilliantly however I'm having an issue with access through web browser for technicians to log in, and for customers to track their jobs. it won't allow other machines on the same network access to that application.

Now I'm unsure if it is a port issue, as far as I'm aware the other application doesnt use a port for web (however I may be wrong) so i think it may be an access or an IIS issue.

The helpdesk is ManageEngine Service Desk+ and I have no idea about organizing access or IIS so if anybody knows or could point me in the rightdirection I'd much apreciate it

hiya
my other firefox tab is on a conversation with my friend on facebook about Vsphere server installs (vmware)

ok so im assuming that this helpdesk application is running on a VM? - what os is the VM, server 2008R2? or is it running on a lowly xp VM?

im having to make guesswork because youve not given me enough information --
whats on the VM with the app, ISA? (hope not prolly that blocking it)
if on the Vm itself-- can you access the web interface of the application?
for instance by typing http://localhost:8080 this way you know if IIS is not configured at all for the app directly from the server its installed on or wether its a firewalling or permission issue
its not something stupid like windows firewall blocking it?

let me know what the crack is and we`ll sort it out

Hey Reflex, thanks for the help!

Yes its a VM machine runing 208R2 and I can access it on the VM itself by typing in localhost:8090

I've set the port itself to 8090 so try and avoid conflict with any other services/apps as i tried it on 8080 to begin with and thought that might be the issue
I can't see any other ISA app or service running...

After having a fiddle it turned out that the Firewall was allowing the program in/out but was blocking all ports that weren't 80!

Working fine now, although there's virus checker problem with outgoing mail but that's on a server I have no access too but my friend's back off holiday so he said he can sort that tomorrow with an LDAP feed so users can track their jobs!
