Default Jail for Twitter comments...?? - 29-03-2012, 10:03 PM

Whenever anything bad happens you always get attention seeking cunts on the internet that try and get a rise out of people by making comments about it.

The other week following the Muamba incident some bellend jumped on twitter making jokes and pitching for attention, being a racist and generally being a cunt...

Nothing new there. But he's getting banged up now apparently!!!

And while I obviously think the guy is a tool, I do wonder about the idea that our government can lock us up for basically having an opinion or voicing a joke or a sentiment via a public forum like Twitter because enough people find it disagreable?

I mean don't we have the right to be ignorant racist attention seeking cunts anymore?

And where do you draw the line? Who gets the decided what is and isn't fair game?

Thoughts?

You can ask whats fair and not fair but ultimately the most powerful decides on the rules and inflicts them others.

In my own interactions in the past ive wondered on my own 'rules' dealing with people and there is no fair -- what im willing to accept from somone without ki8cking their ass can somtimes be a lot less than im willing to give somone.

so in other words life isnt fair-- whoever is biggest/most powerful and can get away with it will.

bully, meathead, bouncer, policman, politician, government, european union
religious leaders, the US (after oil)

the next point is -- having worked in IT for 16 years - ive seen the internet and its useage grow from modems on bulliten boards with 5 1/4 inch floppies to what it is now.

and i say - YOU ARE NOT ANONYMOUS ON THE INTERNET **
people think just because knowone can physically see them and they call themselves a silly name they are anonymous and can say what they want.

15 years ago on a forum i posted som Trolls name and address and phone number up for all to see - (silenced him)

Ive had people sacked and ive had somone in Court on serious charges.

There are ways to protect yourself online that make it more and more difficult to trace you - ultimately if somone has enough money and power they will still get to you- but for most- even the government just using an anonymous proxy will do along with never using any personal details

I agree with all that to be fair. But these twitter trolls are attention seeking. it's a manifestation of some other issue and it comes from the idea that any attention is better than none at all.

Yeh life's not 'fair' that's clear enough, but this kinda thing should unsettle more people than it does. I got into really ill advised arguement at work about this...

It isn't the start and it definitely won't be the end. I don't agree with what he said but he should have been able to say it.

The Internet should be a forum for information and debate but like reflex said it is just the people with the power and money who control the circulation of info in the general public.

It never should have never reached a judge, yes he was drunk and made some very ill-thought decisions when he replied but it wasn't like he was tryin to organise a bnp lynching, he was just a tipsy student.

I worry when I think about information and the future...

i think since the social epidemic the web is changing.
it's no longer 2002 were your options were information or wanking.
it integrated into peoples lives a lot more thus everyday rules and laws are as well.

plus few years back he would have probably said the comment in front of his mates in the pub been given at backhand and called a knob. nowadays every moron can have a audience of thousands.

guessing this was all back in the day a lot more difficult to do unless its a system you control or hacking

agreed just look at some of the latest hacker cases/copyright.
proxy service, web host, service provider will all give you up if theres enough pressure put on them.
