Default Stylist - 01-06-2011, 03:49 PM

Have any of you guys ever been to see a stylist/personal shopper?

Ive realised i tend to follow a fashion sense that places more emphasis on showing off my body than demonstrating a sense of style and making the best of my whole self.

So can anyone with experience or comments post? even shameless link who they have seen?

Thanks

Unless you look pretty bad Reflex I'd say there's not much point, significant style changes generally make one somewhat self aware and in many cases uncomfortable - it's definitely better to be comfortable than not.

That said, if your goal is narcisstic self improvement and you don't care about potential short term discomfort then watch some girly shows and learn all about it. You'll quickly find that the advice given by stylists is identical to peacocking theory and revolves around accessories which they generally call "flair" opposed to peacocking.

The other principle that goes with this is just the concept of layering, which with a bit of experience looking through images of what is considered current good style you can quickly get the idea of.

If anything the most important thing of all is simply having well fitted clothes, not egregiously tight, not baggy.

You might also want to chill in Clothes Make The Man which is a pretty active subreddit dedicated to male fashion. There's a number of guides in the right sidebar as well as the normal submissions in the main left column.

Not used a stylist, though I am considering it. I spend quite a lot on clothes but later regret about 1/2 of what I buy. I reckon that a stylist would sort out the wheat from the chaff and help me better express who I am through clothing.

KD (chief of the Other Forum) offers styling services. He seems to get good comments from pua's and girls. Want me to get his number for you?

Ignore the naysayers: do it. Likely to be talent everywhere too. Give yourself a different perspective, you don't have to go along with it if you feel like a twat. Alternatively you can do it yourself by looking for looks you like the look of (you can't say "look" too often in one sentence), and going out to buy with a plan accordingly. Gonna start sounding gay here, but buy outfits or things that go together, in each shopping trip...don't just grab individual things that look cool, build outfits mindfully in the shop. It's a useful little tip, otherwise we blokes tend to just grab different things that look cool and go with nothing else, just so we can get the hell out of the shop as quick as possible! They then sit in the back of your wardrobe, depreciating merrily through lack of use.

I want to go for a more sophisticated look but also want to demonstrate that i am still muscular and in awesome shape.

Currently i tend to wear Smart jeans, shoes or boots and a smart logo`d Tshirt if i go out, or a tight short sleeve shirt.

at the moment i tend to be going on a lot of dates with very intelligent, successful women -- for instance last night i dated a woman who teaches surgeons how to reconstruct faces, she has 7 horses and an estate. (not the car lol)

Dont misunderstand me-- i am not asking for advice to be somthing i am not, but i think my dress sense needs tweaking.

youve seen how i dress Kowalski

i also dont want to turn into some Label whore either -- my best friend will go out with £1000s worth of vivien westwood clothes, and thats not including his watch
thats not me, besides i cant afford to do that!

tbh reflex, i think with bigger guys, it may be better to cover up more, but with sleek fitted clothes (not tight), and leave a little to the girls imagination about whats underneath

maybe experiment with classy conservative style clothes or the laid back preppy look, maybe, chinos, plain v neck tshirts, white/light blue/light pink/stripey shirts (stripes in the previously mentioned conservative colours), fitted casual blazers, dark blue straight cut jeans, plain tops, thin jumpers (light natural colours) etc.. cant think right now, but im thinking classic clothes that have stayed in fashion for ages and always will...when worn right anyway. would probably soften ur look too, like k said u r stack!, not a bad thing tho, worth experimenting with. also try stay away from tops with elastic at the waist bit, its just gona make u look like a snow man.

thats my 2 cence anyway.

peace homes

I got friendly with a personal fashion stylist fella / male model and went for some shopping today. showed me what i can pull off and not.
i got awesome advice from him and gave me a massive confidence boost .
worth their weight in gold IMO (unless hes obese).

its all about stright/slim/skinny jeans with, t shirt/ shirt and blazer with vans or pointy shoes and plenty of accessories.

id be happy to reccommend my mate to anyone, he lives in sheppards bush right next to westfield.

I would take a good look at what everone else dresses like and don't do that. Style is all about expressing your self. if you like the look of something wear it. you can wear the most stupid shit and as long as your comfortable with it so will everyone else
