Default How do you act in the workplace? - 10-03-2011, 07:35 AM

I read lots of PUA stuff about not giving a fuck what people think, and doing what you want to do, when you want to do it... But obviously there are limits and boundaries, and places you should or shouldn't break the mould.

So I'm curious, how do you guys act in the workplace? Describe the environment (office, outdoors, machine shop), and do you act like you don't give a shit, or do you try and conform to some kind of professional norm.

I'm in an internal sales office for an engineering company (interconnect solutions), and in the office everyone tries to act really professional, rarely trying to break the mould or have fun.

One does not have to stop giving a shit about anything in order to be masculine, alpha or attractive.

In the workplace you keep your professional head on while maintaining self respect, you have superiors but that doesn't mean they're allowed to abuse you, if too much is asked of your or someone is treating you without respect then you stand your ground.

In all other situations you just do the job that you're meant to be doing to the absolute best standard you can and you do it with passion.

What you've described above is more akin to a douchebag than to a man.

In my opinion.

In a true not giving a shit ethos you wouldnt have a boss and would work for yourself
not always the case though.

I have a boss
I have a mortgage to pay and bills and i need my job
- I am told i am a law unto myself
- My boss is 'wary' of me and gets other people to have a word with me rather than himself

I have conditioned him to realise that if you piss me off you get even less than you want.
We tend to go through a cycle of him pissing me off for a while-- we`ll have a confrontation (in which i can be quite scary) and then he`ll play nice for a few months.

The stupid thing is hes just bought me a new 30k Beemer, and everyone is bemused at how this has happened with my general behaviour.
So i am towing the line at the moment to condition him that nice things for me = a nice me

I love to say innapropriate things at work, the more Proffessional the environment the more i enjoy saying innapropriate things.

I say to you -- do your job but have a bit of fun while you are doing it and dont be a pussy

I have to agree with RLAJay. Just be straight with people, tell them what to expect and what you expect - if somebody is trying to pass off the donkeywork to me I'll pass the job back and tell them what I'm willing to do.

It's not about being harsh; people respect you for being straight-up and firm, much like PUA...
