So I had this 'amazing' idea.

What I would do is recite poetry to strangers.
Just stop random people walking through the city, and entertain them.

This was the script:
Monsieur! Madame! I am a .street.poet. I'd like to recite a 30 second poem to you.

My shrink thought it was a cool idea. She was like 'why not give it a try?'

So I've been doing it for a few days.
Much to my surprise, it just doesn't work.

It's like people just aren't interested.
Out of all the people I approached, about 6/7 or so, only one wanted to hear.
It's not exactly conclusive, but the numbers aren't exactly going my way.

I don't want to call it a day.
But it seems to me people would just rather get their entertainment from TV.
Running through their mind is Hollywood, youtube, instant gratification etc.
How could I ever compete? lol.

I figured that in writing this post I'd maybe come up with some new ideas to try.
But in reality I got nothing.
I feel like Obama or at least his chief economist who gotta solve the recession.

Plenty of resourcefullness. Just no resources.
It's pretty pissing off.
I was so sure it was gonna work... ukhhhh

Any thoughts on this? Why it didn't work? Could I improve my performance?

I figure I'll keep on trying for at least a couple of days or so.
Then just give up lol.

You have a shrink? How much you pay for that lol.

Whats your end goal? What do you want them to do? Just stop and listen, pay you, or what...

Are you trying to get into Day Game or something?

That's a legacy of my crazy days when everything was a bit 'hyphy'. lol

Basically, I give out these cool looking mini-flyers at the end of each set.
They advertise my website where people can buy my music.
I figured that if I got really good at poetry, it would lead to interest.

I used to do Day-Game a while back.
This is more like using what I learnt for something else.

I did a few more sets and my performance is improving.
The more I practise, the better I seem to be getting at grabbing their attention.

I figure I should stick with it for a week.
It's cool to tell people 'I'm a .street.poet.' if nothing else.

It's cool to be able to recite your own poetry to girls.
That's the angle I should stick with.

I'd love to have a shrink, although they would probably tell me stuff I don't wana hear lol.

Trust me.
Having a shrink is fun.
You just getta talk and talk and talk.
I never brought up 'the community' actually.
She would probably have been mildly supportive....probably.lol.

And if you've been hearing 'voices' lately.
The shrink is free. hahahahahah

Everyone hates Poetry

You spout off words at them,, they stand there in uncomfortable silence wondring if they should show appreciation for somthing they dont like.

Instead of talking AT them talk TO them and aget a dialogue going, doing somthing else

This thread made me laugh lots. Maybe you should try moving into street comedy.
