Default Rock is dead... - 14-01-2011, 11:06 PM

Or is it?

Media reports this week have been touting the death of Rock music. Within the last year only 3 singles to hit the top 40 could be loosely categorised as Rock music.

Do you think Rock music is dead? is there a future for rock music?

With the closing of Jillys in Manchester, and the distinct lack of rock clubs in London that I have come across is it finally the death of death metal?

Discuss...

This may sound more hipsterish than the hipster club I was at the other night..

You should check out some of live underground unsigned acts you see playing in non descript places, some of my current favourite artists are the ones ive walked into a place, liked the sound anf saught them out.

Just because your not aware of them in the usual places doesnt mean they dont exist.

I've heard this all before. Metal's dead, Drum & Bass is dead, etc. Then you get one tune that makes it big and it's 'back' again.

F*ck the top 40. It's force-fed mediocrity. The only radio I can bare to listen to is Zane Lowe in the evenings, or metal and drum and bass stations online.

This has become a Tescos now. Something tells me there was financial pressure which an entity like Jilly's could not compete with (as well as the recession). In short - Tesco got the spot they wanted... another street corner in Manchester.

As for the masses who went to Jillys, they're still there, just not in the same building. They've been at the rather scally Coliseum ever since, but are about to relocate to Retro bar behind the BBC. Proabably a better venue, dingy and cheap!

Finally, look at the line-up for Sonisphere. I've got my ticket already, it's too damn hot to miss!

Interesting...

I see a field trip on the cards on the horizon.

Exactly Rood. A reconnaissance mission is worthy. This friday is the first one so I hear, but I'm off to a heavy dnb night at Band on Wall so will have to wait.

I'll tell you why there's no rock in the top 40. Only kids buy singles. Rock is not dead, Rock is life.
