Default Travelling - 24-04-2015, 12:21 PM

So I'm 25 this year, single, don't have an amazing career and have never really known what I want to do with my life. Other than have fun.

I'm thinking of travelling but don't know where I'd go or if it would be worth fucking my job off for (or if i could come back to work after). I do understand that If I don't do it now, I don't know when I would, or what the future holds. Just looking for some advice, cheers!

Make a list of the pros and the cons

then do it anyway...

The difference that travelling made in my life was big. The difference that living abroad had made is profound.

In terms of my Job, I work nights in a supermarket and have done for nearly 5 years. I get every Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday night off though which is pretty perfect as I can really utilise my days off. (go out drinking) But with that being my only job, on paper I don't really have any other skills than supermarket work. I do like my work I just hate having to tell people I fucking stack shelfs because it sounds like the shitest thing ever.
So it would be sacrificing my lifestyle, Spending 1000's with a danger of being un-employed for who knows how long. To potentially find myself/realise what I want to do with my life.

Was wondering if anyone had any recommendations of where to go?

Right now it sounds like you have a job, not a career and you can find a job anywhere in the world.

Where do you want to go? What do you want to do? What do you enjoy doing?

If you want to just travel then Asia and South America are cheap and very interesting.

If you want a working holiday then it would be best to choose somewhere you'd realistically be able to work (i.e. possible to speak the language & get a visa) - Australia & NZ, Canada, USA, Places that attract large amounts of English Tourists.

Might I recommend doing a mixture of the above 2. I live in Montreal which is French speaking (but pretty much bi-lingual) I got a job within a week of arriving with no French (I now speak French). Plan out your trip according to where you want to go, what you want to do and the best times of year to do those things!

And what is it you are doing to better yourself?

Other than posting cryptic answers to direct questions, veiling all the progress you haven't made since having a crap date then considering male prostitution...

You are nothing more than a mental masturbator - if I am wrong in this assertion prove it by posting something of worth other than some superfluous nonsense.

In general you are cryptic as fuck Redemption, and if your posts on here are anything to go by you are the last person to listen to regarding self development.

Long term travel is an end in itself rather than a distraction, and believe it or not travelling and thinking aren't mutually exclusive.

Go. Everything you left will be waiting for you when you get back. If it isn't you've lost a supermarket night shift. Not the end of the world.

This is worth a listen.

I'd say his time would be more wasted putting boxes onto shelves rather than learning from what the world has to offer.

For the past year or so I've often thought about the idea of travelling. Maybe not so much "travelling" per se like most people who head off to do, like a 3 year trip around the villages of Asia or any of that, but more like I just wanna go see all the cool fucking places I long to see..

Iceland..

NYC..

Egypt..

Rome..

Las Vegas, for a big fight..

It's a pity I'm not in Vegas next Saturday for Pacquiao vs Mayweather - that would literally be the pinnacle of my 30 years up until that point.

The above are just a few off the top of my head, but there's a lot more. I have a particular interest in places of historical significance like the pyramids & all that cool shit.

Back to the point of the thread - My mate kicked his job as a self-employed photographer towards the end of last year to go busking his way around Europe. He spent a few months working his way down England to get used to switching towns all the time, & right now he's in Amsterdam.

He is loving it. He's great on the guitar & quite a fucking good singer/songwriter, so he makes a decent living for a busker. Doubled his income recently by investing in an amp. I could post some YouTube videos if anyone is interested in seeing first hand a guy who went "travelling"

The point is, just do it. I couldn't just do it now because I have a child & I'd never leave him. I'm not saying he is a hindrance it's just that when you are a parent you realise you couldn't just leave the country for a year. Not unless you're a scumbag who doesn't care.

But if you've no kids, then fuck your supermarket job in the bin.

20 years from now you'll regret the things you didn't.......etc etc

You can't win if you don't play

Cheers! A lot of sound advice here. I'd probably only go a maximum of 3 weeks just do I've done it and can get a proper feel for it. But I'd try n do that and come back to my job.

Part of the point is to work out what I want to do with my life, seeing new things, experiencing new places, people, situations and just generally getting out of my comfort zone to test myself. Last year I went abroad 3 times to 3 completely different places n though they where essentially holidays I just enjoyed being somewhere new.

I'm one of these people who has never had any idea what career I want. I just like having fun, making people happy and being social.
