I've done this using a negative scanner.
They start around £30 and go up to hundreds. It depends on how high resolution you want and other fancy timesaving features.
The key is making a workable system of loading the negative, processing the photo, storing it as a digital file, and removing the film.
Negative scanners work like webcams, so you can use pretty much any webcam software to do it. Find something which will invert the photo and save to a folder (organised properly) with as little key presses and clicks as possible.
I think I used Manycam.
If you have a lot of photos and you're technical, look into some sort of command line application you can build a simple progam to use. You should be able to make a semi-automatic solution.
Good luck!
