Default Car accident; recovery 1 year+ - 07-04-2013, 02:23 PM

So I'm laid up in hospital writing this drugged up on Morphine (i think).

I was involved in a car accident with a HGV. My mate was driving the car and we were completely sober, for once. On the motorway this HGV starts swaying around next to us, next thing we know both vehicles are touching and the HGV is pushing our car further over towards the barriers (got a decent drop down below). So my mate decides to speed up in order to try to get free of the HGV and also we were approaching a sliproad so we could just get off the motorway there and rejoin later. So he sped up and out of nowhere, another HGV from in front pulls into our lane and heavily braces from the slip road. Well we couldn't stop. That's all I remember.

I woke up in hospital with what you see on those films; bright white lights and whatnot but it was actually a doctor testing my pupils. So he informed me that I have a broken back, dislocated hip, torn knee ligaments (again) a broken nose and the usual mass bruising. I had my operation early this morning on my back. I have another 1 scheduled for Monday for my knee.
No-one's said a word about my mate so I feared the worst. But the nurse came over after the operation to tell me he only had a broken leg and will be fine. Thank fuck!

This has really knocked my spirits, I'm basically gonna be able to do fuck all for a year at least. It's fucked me over for improving my game, for everything really. I feel depressed to fuck.

I broke out a smile for my rather fit nurse and we have some banter when she gets me my food and today she had lunch with me which was pritty cool. Other than that, there's fuck all to do in here but watch tv I have to fucking pay for and piss around on my laptop. Real fucking social.

Well, there you go. So nothing for me for a good while. I'll come on here now and then but not too often as I'm pritty sure it'll piss me off that I'm stuck doing fuck all whilst you guy's are having fun.

Good luck, have fun and progress,

YNNAD

That's fucking rough mate.

Forget about 'improving your game'. You've got a new, more improtant goal, and that's to recover fully (or as best as you can) from the horrific accident that almost killed you.

Good luck.

Sorry to hear about the bad luck!

That's said it's not all doom and gloom, just because you're not working/running etc. you can use your time to read/learn a language or instrument/plan a holiday/open university.

Also you can still chat up nurses/girls you come across as I remember hearing on the radio a while back that girls love a guy in plaster/bandages...

It's gonna be rough getting better and I wish you all the best but you can use your time to do stuff you wouldn't normally be able to do because you'd be working/dealing with daily crap

Mate, sorry to hear about whats happened to you!

But to be totally honest i think its bollocks that you are trying to avoid the forum because other people are having fun and you arent, you still have your brain intact so there is still room for self development and above all giving others on the forum your opinions and help. you can still make a difference whilst lay in a hospital bed. That way i think when your fully recovered you will infact be a step forward not 2 steps back!

Hope you have a speedy recovery mate.

"Not supposed to be up this late" was the words of my fit nurse when she saw me on the laptop so I'll make this short and sweet coz I don't want the evil bitch poisoning me or something!

Cheers guys I was just in a spiral of feeling sorry for myself that made me get all depressed and shit.

The reality of it all is that it's happened, can't change that.

Now I'm gonna finish off perfecting my Spanish, French and Italian. Also start learning Romanian and I'm gonna get every shred of RSD information.
I'll use the forum, help people out where I can, might even have a lucky day once in awhile. See how it goes.

Can anyone recommend some books, mainly on philosophy and generally books that are somewhat useful in PU? (though there aren't many I know)

What's the story with the truck driver anyway? Was he drunk or something? You may get a tasty payout from this.
Aye the lucky bastard wasn't as bad as me, I was told today after my last operation that I was airlifted to hospital, which is pritty awesome (although I don't remember it). I'm all banterous now.

Truck driver was over on his hours, he fell asleep at the wheel. He came off fine apparently.
Honestly, I'm a money grabbing bastard most of the time so I will definitely be looking down that route when I can be arsed to

Mate that is aweful, sounds like your lucky to have made it! best of luck with the recovery!

Make sure you milk it for the guy falling asleep at the wheel, I got 3.5k a few years back for a straight forward whiplash claim and could recommend the people I used if you'd like..

Smash the pay per view and claim it all back

Definitely a good idea to get reading and learning as much as you can, you might be able to use this time for something even more life changing than the accident itself!

Get well soon!

Dave

Aye man they first thought it was spinal. Apparently I was awake and talking but I don't remember shit.

Yeah I'd be interested in any recommendations you could give. The car was a write off.

I'm not the type of person to milk it, I'm more the straight to the point kinda guy. My dad has recently got a Tribunal case payout of 35k and the guy who was running it actually said he was "intimidated" by me. Haha grow some balls!

Cheers man

good luck in your recovery on a cash front I got four figures when someone ran me over and left me for dead. Didn't break a bone either so you should be in for coin.

use this time to learn something new and have one goal and one goal only BJ of fit nurse!

Cheers guys I'm doing awesome, recovery is going well. Walking around on crutches with a back brace is a ballache.
I stopped taking my medication now since the pain is manageable, hoping for a quicker than scheduled recovery.

I should make a FR about what happened with the nurse; goal accomplished.

I've been told I could be entitled to a very handsome 5 figure compensation, possibly even 6 figure, though not betting on it.
More evidence has came to light about the lorry drivers and the lorry braking in the sliproad has been found out to of broke very hard from 80mph down to 30mph.
