Found an extra interesting thing to add to this:

People could not misattribute negative arousal (the scary bridge) for positive arousal, which was the attractive woman (Kenrick & Cialdini, 1977).

Basically, even though your brain can be tricked into feelings of arousal through exercise you will not feel arousal for anyone that you would view with negative arousal (turn off).

Best addition I have for this. The research paper cited is $40. I'm not paying for it. Best free source on this studied area is: Misattribution of Arousal Paradigm - PsychWiki - A Collaborative Psychology Wiki

Be warned, pyschwiki is a huge time sink if you're into psychology and have a habit of clicking links. It's almost as bad as tvtropes

Nope, absolutely can't find a free source for the actual papers. Science is one of those things that hasn't seen the sting of piracy, unfortunately.

Found a few interesting articles on the subject though.

Not a bad one -
Misattribution of Arousal | Science That Matters

Wiki also has an article but it's not as good as the psychwiki one.
Misattribution of arousal - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Another article, this one is well written in more layman's and understandable descriptions
Is This Love Or Too Much Caffeine? Misattributions of Arousal Strengthen Relationships | Psychology Today

Basically the phenomenon lends itself to the argument that any emotion is better than no emotion, what PS was getting at.

It's good to see this, I'd never come across the evidence for this advice before. I might start writing a list up of advice given that's actually supported by scientific research.
