I'm sure you've heard the idea before that 'State is king.'

I generally have to agree with this as i had girls open ME (god forbid) on tuesday night, just because i must have been giving off a good vibe or something. Looking back i should have capitalised on this but it's all learning experience i suppose. Example from the smoking area outside Yates':

HB8: I like your haircut.

Me: Come here. (she walks over, i pull her in by waist) What's your name?

HB8: blah blah

Me: Do you know that that is my most favourite name!! (delivered in the cheesy Del-Boy from Fools & Horses tone, i've had a few!)

(She smiles and stays held in the claw)

I end up playing thumb wars & i spin her around and stuff for a laugh.

From there i just engage her in normal conversation and i'm doing ok until my non-pua friend comes in and just stands there without saying anything. The girl was obviously a bit intimidated because there was two of us and i even introduced him but it changed the atmosphere instantly, and that was that. Maybe i should have got her to sit down in isolation sooner or been more enthusiastic about introducing my mate whilst he does the thousand mile 'chode stare'.

Anyway, my point is that i believe being in state opens up a world of other opportunities to take advantage of. Some of the things that i normally do are; talk louder, talk bollocks, clap my hands, make WOOO noises like Ric Flair, say hello to randoms, just be enjoying the music and, of course, approaches.

Im just interested as to what some of the other guys on the forum do to get in a good state, or whether you even think about it in that way.

You should teach your mate to wing, number of girls in set is the max number of guys in set. So he shouldn't be orbiting your set like a creepy stalker

No doubt about state is very important.. To answer your question..

To get in state I TALK to people.. Just walking around starting conversations.. Heck, maybe even tickle some girls as a conversation starter, if I'm a bit lazy!
Start dancing.. Do something!

(And if you're out doing daygame.. Doing some sets will get you started! ;-) )

Key is you accept the first sets doesn't have to be perfect!

I put Akcent with Kylie on my iPod on repeat for a few swings before I go out, puts me in the right frame of mind.

Something I've also done lately is go into set without a goal in mind. This is totally new for me and quite difficult as my cock tend to lead me astray. But go into set just to have fun, rather than with the goal to try seduce a certain girl. It certainly gets my AA running away and state is easier to achieve for me when doing this.

Nah man, you can't blame your mate for fucking up the set. Maybe he just wasn't in the mood for talking, it happens to me sometimes. Unless he was deliberately trying to make the girl feel intimidated? If you were enjoying yourself, having a good time with your girl then she wouldn't be thinking about your mate, or much else.

I've found that the best way to get me in a good mood these days is to look at everything as if it were a comedy,something ridiculous like scary movie,or any seth rogen film, where you know that you can't take any word that comes out of anyones mouth seriously. When I can get my mind into this state, I will find almost everything funny. And it's weird cos when i am in this state of mind I notice that most things are actually funny, particularly in a club/pub environment. Everyone is out to have a good time (almost everyone) which requires outrageous behaviour which you wouldn't find anywhere else except on a friday/sat night in town centre. Everyones got their social masks on and it's quite funny when you can see that for what it is, and i don't mean that in a condescending way, it's just a funny fact of life. Self amusement is the key, and obviously it helps to be around people that think the same way. I've met a few pua dudes that have had a bit of a negative vibe, and ive found that this affected my own state big time.

I was going make a big post about this but I shall summarize here.

Start off with the intention of getting into state knowing full well what ever you’re going to be will be fucking amazing and you cannot help but have a great time.

Begin by doing something that creates adrenaline. Adrenaline is the fuel for state. Do this without any alcohol as it will dull the feeling of adrenaline you get. Once you've acted in that situation your brain will kick into action mode.

From there do something that puts you in a good mood. I listen to uplifting energetic song or some badass hip hop which does the trick.

After that then you can start drinking. Alcohol intensifies whatever mood you’re in. If you you’re in a happy mood it will make you happier just the same as if you’re depressed drinking will make you more depressed.

After that you should be feeling pretty energetic, I always know I’m on the way when I start dancing / singing to the music I'm listening to (I even prone to doing little spins and kicks)

Now you’re ready you should start chatting to people with a heavy emphasis of completely amusing yourself and having an amazing time.

This is the voice of experience.

I'd would suppose anxiety is the biggest state killer.

To worry about how your going to be perieved or to make any pre judjments in any situation then your writing yourself a poor scrpit.

Probably the most fitting description of State that I've come across, and an important clue as to why the ego is not your friend in pick-up.
