hey guys,

im going to austria next month and will be going out in the bars etc. so will be doing some pick-up.

obviously given the language barrier it'll probably be a bit of a challenge. especially when you want to improvise and not use canned openers as im not going to carry round a dictionary haha

should i go with a few of my own canned openers and learn them in german?

any tips?

Just ask if they speak English, do this in German if you like to show you're not an ignorant British tourist and willing to have a stab at speaking the local lingo. If they say no, move on. If they say yes, speak in English, then improvise. Simple.

Austrians speak great English.

If they don't, talk really loudly and wave your arms around. Johnny Foreigner loves it.

I would love to see you do a routine translated into German that would be hilarious.

it would be funny to do a translated routine/opener and then just look at them blankly when they reply in german and i have no idea what they say lol

Foxster, this could be used as a good opportunity to try silent game, or at least maximise your use of body language over words. As the old saying goes it's not what you say. Test this theory.
