Malcolm Gladwell's
Outliers has some interesting stuff on that. He takes something like the top 20 hockey players in Canada (or something - can't remember the exact detail). And he notes that 15 of them were born from September to December.
Why? Because the school year starts in September. Meaning in primary school these kids had a physical head start over the other kids. It gave them an edge - In some cases up to 11 months extra development.
They were only
slightly better to begin with. But then the better kids are put in the first team, they get better coaching, they get better equipment to play with. So they get even better, and these small advantages are translated into major benefits.
As for astrology -
its absolute bollocks.
Read the first chapter of
The Definitive Book of Body Language. Therein lies a paragraph of 'mind reading' which looks like a horoscope. They are all contradictory but seemingly plausible statements: "You are someone who enjoys the company of others, but also needs your own space from time to time to just step back and reflect... You feel comfortable with people, but feel you need to trust them before really opening up to them... etc'.
I also remember Derren Brown doing something similar to this. He wrote horoscopes for 20 people, and asked them to rank them. Everyone gave him 80%+ for accuracy, and said he had really good astrological powers.
Then it turned out he had given all 20 people identical horoscopes.
However, this stuff is also very potent chick crack. Use it with care, and you'll get some excellent results.
