Default Becoming Free of Social Conditioning - 30-12-2009, 09:25 PM

Recently read an article that struck a chord with me and would like to share with you guys. Everyday Wonderland » Becoming Free of Your Parents and Social Conditioning

Growing up as children alot of our early belief systems are our induced via our parents and whilst being at such a young age we often do not know any better to be able to question these beliefs. Whilst some of the beliefs we pick-up are useful, some are not and because we have carried these negative beliefs for so long they become deep-rooted and therefore they are hard to shake-off.

As a kid my parents went through a long and bitter divorce which really affected my confidence as a child. My father had custody over myself and my brother and became very bitter and angry towards life after the collapse of his marriage. He became untrusting of others, quick to judge and lead quite a cynical life, traits that unfortunately my brother and I developed ourselves. Our parents give us reference material as children as to how to navigate through life and sometimes we can become mis-directed.

It wasn't until I left home and went to University that I began to see things differently and interact with others of a more open-minded and tolerant nature that allowed me to instill new belief systems of a more positive light.

If anyone else has found the belief systems and social conditioning dictated to them by their parents or other external sources to be unhelpful to your own personal growth then the above article should be of some benefit to you in it's clarity and guidance.

It was fear of myself that made me odd

Brilliant article! Thanks very much Hustler. Strange because I've been giving this subject a lot of thought recently, and this is exactly what I needed to hear.

It's only technique in its conjunction with meaningfulness that you get a work of art

There's a book about how your parents influence your development called "they f**k you up"
They F*** You Up: How to Survive Family Life: Amazon.co.uk: Oliver James: Books
I think i've got it somewhere I read some of it at uni but I don't remember much of it. I might have a read of it again

"Is it wrong for a man to love his guitar?"

"It is if he puts his balls between the strings, and strums himself to ecstasy!"
