I have been thinking about this for a while:

Is PUA just an expensive complicated placebo deigned to give men the confidence to approach women?

I mean lets face it, most men (not all) who end up looking in to PUA just lack the self belief in themselves to approach and talk to a woman confidently without turning into a big creepy ball of mess.

Guys learn about negs, dhv, escalating etc. but you are essentially telling him to do what he should do as a natural course, giving him a confidence boost to flirt because he has these "secrets" in his arsenal that he doesnt really need.

I wanted to see what you guys thought because PUA works to a certain point at getting men to "pick-up" girls but I don't think it is the techniques or school of PU that does it, more the fact that a guy has a crutch of confidence for his approach....

the issue lies in the part that says if you fail, go back & read another book. if i had to read a book every time i got blew out. (id have read a whole book)

id never leave the house.

This is due to fact that the persons in question don't have the patience to work on changing themselves over a long period, and instead flit between methods as last week's didn't 'work'. The magic pill mentality if you will.

these books tell you they have mastered a way to get any girl as if by magic. Its an easy sell.

its when people have tried everything they realise. 2 things will happen.

they move on and cary on being a bore

or

they realise that the mild success they did get was due to their own input, and work on that

All this reading is making me want to go and buy some books.

Agree with the fact that most of the PU materials effect is somewhat placebo, however I disagree with ridiculing them for it, a placebo is after all in plenty of cases a valid and working cure..

Ignorance is bliss as far as I'm concerned with placebo, why fight against something that's either going to help you or have no effect?

Very true, important to keep this in mind although most of these things do say give it 21 or 30 days ect..

If only people would realise you need to take the magic pill every day for a month!!

PUA imo is a Californian fad that has got a little bit out of hand. They do seem to love their magic pills over there

What man need bother learning pickup or self improvement when you can sort yourself out via online dating. The magic pill has never been so easy to consume.
