Increasing muscle to burn fat
I've been hitting gym quite regular, doing mainly weights and not much cardio.
I just can't be assed with running but I'm loving doing weights n stuff.. Obviously I'm still trying to trim the fat off my belly.. And I think in general I'm getting more muscular and fitter.. Do you think doing ab crunches on the machine with heavy weights to build ab muscles will aid in the fat loss? I just want some variation aside from general weight lifting.. and can't be assed with cardio right now but still wana lose the belly.. My diet is improved a lot too.. |

having more muscle will lose fat, but not short term, just spend 2 weeks of eating PERFECT with hard cardio every day... its a short term solution shud kill off a stone |
I'd highly recommend getting some cardio in, use the cross trainer/bike or rower instead of running if you want. Personally I never use the treadmill, I tend to stick to the cross trainer or rowing machine.
Obviously gaining muscle raises your BMR, but I've never seen any evidence that it's possible to target weight loss, so I wouldn't focus on doing ab exercises (unless your after a killer six pack) because it won't do anything for the fat on your belly (well more than other muscle groups anyway) Most of all, fair play for being assed to get to the gym regularly, and improving your diet. |
Okay cool!
Any advice for staying muscular whilst I'm blasting out cardio all the time?? |
It's there in what phil already said, make sure you eat right! The body will only anobolise muscle for energy if your not getting enough from your diet, personally I wouldn't recommend blasting it off so quickly, but whatever it'll work, just might be slightly harder to maintain afterwards.

Without mentioning foods, can you offer any advice on the types I should eat at what point in the day? Like when will I need most carbs, protein, fats, pre workout and post workout. I know shit about timing

the atkins diet but without totally cutting carbs basically
early mornin 9-10ish have somethin like poridge & a protein drink, or chicken sandwich, omlette etc 11 - 12 ish chicken wrap or tin of tuna/mackrel 2-3 ish same chicken sales, tuna etc 4-5 ish protein shake cardio after work followed by protein shake 6-7 get home eat chicken & veg 8-9 tin of tuna before bed protein drink and buy yourself some nuts, just eat a handfull once every hour... they are full of fat but its good fat... by doing this u trick the body into thinking its constantly fed, therefor it increases ur internal body heat/ metabolism & ur body happily lets excess fats go coz it doesnt fear being starved. cut out greasy food.. olive oil for omelettes, a small blob loads of water on top of that and cut out sauces & sugary shit if u do that, with 5 cardio sessions i.e spin class or circuit u will strip FAST |
Thats a lot Phil, amazing advice

If you arent really bothered about building cardiovascular fitness you don't need to work on it to get low bf....plus if you continue to work out muscles and maintain protein while cutting back on calories there will be little muscle loss.... if you do want to build CV fitness but want some variation without doing actual cardio I'd recommend just taking up a sport like football or boxing which is a lot less tedious than cardio....other than that what other people have said is pretty accurate and the diet plan that Phil has said is very good, would not recommend trying to lose fat very quickly as your metabolism is likely to crash making the long term weight loss very difficult.
