one guy massive arm -- big chunk of meat no definition
second guy slihgly smaller arm but loads of defination, veins, muscle fibres

you will autimatically be drawn to the second guy and think he is the most muscular

leaness = Shape, definition, veins, striations

another example
way back when -- i used to go to night clubs wearing a baggy shirt with a tight tshirt underneath (this was before you could get in with a tshit)
so i get in--take my shirt off and stick it in the cloakroom -- i get laods of attention etc -- even used to walk up to the bar and the guy would ahve my drink ready for me because i stood out so much

anyway i am outside at the end of the night going home and we get talking to a guy we met in the club -- he goes ' fuck did you see that massive guy with the tight tshirt on'

i go ' yeah it was me'

again -bodybuilding is about creating an illusion -- take for example baggy shirt me was big muscles and tight shirt me is definition

I went to a bodybuilding comp years ago and realised after 10 minutes i was stood next to Dorian Yates who was Mr Olympia -- he just looked like a big guy in a shirt --yet when he took his shirt off to guest pose he looked phenominal

get my point?

Yep yep I see, anyone could be huge but it's the contrasting angles of definition applied to mass that draw the eye. I was misconstruing what you were saying before. Mate of mine who shall remain nameless has both (he competes but is not super elite), he's like a walking eclipse but the definition is what makes it stand out. You could pour a bucket of water over his head and it would take half an hour for it to all hit the ground!

EDIT: what's interesting about him though, is his mindset. Fairly bright, but more than that he sort of overlooks difficulties in training and, well in PU the term would be PLOW's on regardless. So when I'm moaning about a tough training session and trying desperately not to slip into historic habits, he just says nothing, it's like the process of training so extremely has trained him to reframe barriers int he rest of his life, naturally, if that makes any sense.

Wouldnt you say that because he has seen what he can achieve with dedicted/consistent hard work that he applies that mindset to all things

Absolutely, although it's automatic. He's been pushing his personal boundary in the gym it's like his threshold for what else bothers him elsewhere, rose up along with it. I'm butchering my description here!

I have that same mentality I just put on fat by eating too much whilst bulking. with the question. I meant like 10st skinny vs 14 beefy with bit of fat.

Bulkings bull shit it really is-- most bodybuilders now 'lean' bulk which basically means keeping their bodyfat low while gradually upping their calories.

The trouble is with bulking is you get so wrapped up in thinking you are getting bigger you dont realise that the size differences are actually fat, also fat acts as a lever on your joints so you actually gain in strenght too by adding fat.
