I think it sort of comes with that power structure of a trad martial arts class. The stern attitude, all the bowing and speaking in Japanese, the general reverence for a Sensei. Doesn't take much to see how that turns into a big massive ego trip.

yeah, they start believing their own hype like some of the celebs. It always leads to crash and burn eventually when they realise it's not actual reality just a façade.
