Friday night I hit Bristol with monkeybuster. I meet him at the Pitcher and Piano. We sit and chill outside whilst getting to know each other. He’s immediately chatting and joking with a group of girls sitting opposite. He’s vibing with them as if he’s been doing this for years. Awesome. He then suggests we do a wildcard game. 3 wildcards each and you pick the set for the other guy. I’m hesitant on this but I’m glad I accepted the challenge. This is how it went down...

We go to Revolution. Whilst monkeybuster gets the round in, I make my first approach. I open a 3 set with an opener nicked from Blanca. ‘Hey, who do you think would win in a fight? Margaret Thatcher? Or the Queen?’ Instantly the girls open up to me. One says Thatcher, the other says the Queen, it starts a funny debate and we’re laughing about it. Monkeybuster comes over and joins in and he’s quick to pick off his target and isolate her. I work the 2 set which I don’t find easy. I’m terrible with conversation anyway but I was finding it difficult with the 2 girls. As usual I went with the usual chodey conversation ‘What do you do? Where you from?’ One of the girls has a face like a slapped ass but my target is happy in the conversation. Slapped ass face girl goes off to the toilet leaving me with my target, I use this time to try and push forward. I use tonnes of kino, I levitate her straw out of her drink and then ask her ‘What the most adventurous thing you’ve done?’ We have a great conversation but I still fail to push forward and go sexual. Slapped ass face girl comes back and the conversation dies. Thankfully monkeybuster suggests we move on.

The next venue is Greenhouse. Monkeybuster slaps down his 1st wildcard, he points out a bitchy looking set sitting in the corner. With no hesitation I go in using the same opener as before and they turn out to be awesome. They open up to me straight away and are really into what I’m saying. I let the conversation dip once again with chodey conversation (I really need to work on this) until monkeybuster comes in to save me. We each pick our targets and chat for a bit. It doesn’t really go anywhere and we head off to our next venue. I throw down my wildcard in the street for a set walking toward us, not leaving him time to think about it. He opens but they keep moving.

We go in to Mbargo. I throw down another wildcard. A hb8 on her own as her mates talk to other guys. She seems a bit bitchy at first but monkeybuster owns it. We hit the dance floor and just dance around. We’re not really looking for sets, just merely enjoying ourselves by dicking around and jumping around on the dance floor. Screaming, shouting and clapping to pump up our state.

I then have one of the smoothest sets I’ve ever had. Monkeybuster tells me how his weakest point is dance floor game. I give him some tips on the little I know about it and then very soon after, I give him the demonstration. I spot a hb8 standing on the side of the dance floor. I look at her until I catch her eye, then do a silly dance making her laugh. I turn and dance with monkeybuster for a moment then turn back to her and do the same thing. She laughs again and I hold out my hand which she takes. I give her a spin. Then another spin, stopping her with her back to me. After a little while of grinding and dancing with her ballroom stylee, I kiss closed. After a lot of kissing, dancing and grinding she was telling me ‘You’ve swept me off my feet, you’re amazing!’ After this I fucked up. Firstly I decided this was too easy, therefore she must be either a psycho or drunk. Secondly, I got bored. Looking back at it I think I could have F-closed and I thought it at the time. Also looking back at it she didn’t seem that drunk or psycho. It was just me pussying out and making excuses. I think I may be afraid of success? I continue dancing and kissing her whilst trying to get monkeybusters attention. I suggest we leave and we do after I make my excuses to the girl and number close.

We make our way to O2 academy and on the way down I’m wild carded to open a 3 set in the street. It goes terrible as they say ‘That’s a really bad pick up line’ and carry on down the road. We hit the O2 academy and we Lord the club, saying hi to randomers and high fiving them. I wildcard monkeybuster with a nice looking 2 set. Once again he absolutely owns it. I come in to try and wing but he doesn’t need it, he’s having a blinder. I instead make friends with some lads next to his set. More dancing around and I get my last wildcard. An absolute hottie dancing with 2 guys. I go in direct.

Me: ‘Hi, I thought you were adorable and just had to meet you, my names Cefai’ She smiles.

Her: ‘My boyfriends just off getting me a drink’

Me: ‘Ok, laters’

Our final set of the night is outside in the smoking area. We open them together and isolate our targets. It goes terribly for me as my target waffles on about a guy she likes but she can’t speak to him. I don’t care, but admiring the fact that my wing can get on with his girl so effortlessly.

The night is topped off before we head off home. Monkeybuster goes for a piss in a dark alley. A girl walks past and opens him ‘I CAN SEE YOUR WILLY!!’

Overall a fantastic night for me. I feel I’m really taking leaps and bounds with my game. Firstly opening was easy for me. Not once did I hesitate to open any of my sets. This is a first for me. Secondly was Kino. More and more I’ve noticed how important Kino is and I Kino’ed like a mofo all night with both monkeybuster and my sets. And obviously it helps a shitload with my dance floor game. Thirdly I wanted to work on being a wingman. There’s been so many times where I’ve failed to wing a few guys on this forum. Failing to isolate obstacles or even give them encouragement. I feel I winged monkeybuster pretty well Friday. But there’s always room for improvement. Turning conversations sexual and making them interesting is my big sticking point now. Any tips on this?

Awesome post Cefai. You should have rung me if you were going to Mbargo's - I was in Illusions having a bizarre experience hitting on girls dressed as super heroes. One of them was even dressed as Chun-Li from Street Fighter, about which I was understandably ecstatic. She was, however, displeased about my inability to spell Blanca. Apparently it's spelt with a K, as in Colonel Blanka...balls to that, I am the one and only Blanca with a C!

It sounds to me like you had an incredible night. Don't worry about thinking of things to say. It'll come along in time. In the meantime, get some practice just saying the first thing that comes into your head with anyone you meet. It'll soon get to be common practice and you'll have the confidence to pull it off.

Aaaah man. Monkeybuster said you were in illusions. But we assumed you wanted to stick with your mates. A girl dressed as chun-li???? Sounds like she may be the perfect woman. I hope you got her number?

I've been thinking about why Friday night was so good and why I had no trouble approaching compared to other nights out with fellow PUA's. I think the key is that monkeybuster and I treated it as a lads night out more than just a night of sarging. There was no pressure to open sets or close them.

Next time we're out we'll have a good old knees up!

Alas I did not - she was the girlfriend of Thor. Needless to say I backed off. Thor is the coolest person in the entire universe, and I consider it an honour I was even allowed to talk to his wench. And wield his hammer. I nearly got stuck in with a girl dressed as He-man's girlfriend, whatever her name is. Unfortunately, in this confusing and trippy world, she was with Batman.

I agree about the having fun bit. Certainly the best nights I've had are the ones where I've had an awesome time, not worried about pulling and just taken right action when presented with a hot girl. Unfortunately, these nights are usually the ones where I'm so fucked that I do stupid things like asking a girl what her name is 7 times or completely ignore girls making obvious advances at me. Still, swings and roundabouts...

Yeeeeeeehaaaa! This was a quality field report mate! And what a night! We funking smashed it!

I've could talk about that night for about 2 hours in a post so I'm going to keep it brief. Here were my observations.

Firstly, Cefai, you are a good wingman... Your main quality is that you are up beat and positive. Come out with me some more and they'll be plenty of opportunity to get more practice!

Also, your dance floor game is on fire! I'm going to be picking your brains more on this. It was all a bit of blur because you went from opening to kiss close in record time! Haaaa! Quality!

The Thatcher Vs Queen worked really well. But did you notice it worked really well with the posh girls in Vodka Revs? This is only supports my argument for use of canned material in my game. I would have gone in natural and my feeling is that, though it would have worked, it wouldn't have worked as well (my feeling of the situation rather than negative belief). The best thing about the Vodka Rev set was the way we split the two groups of girls off, having separate conversations. Good stuff overall I think! You opened awesomely and we got further into the conversation than I initial thought we would! (though I still haven't got in touch with her! Whoops!).

Also Greenhouse! That bitchy set. I remember us talking about how we thought our initial impression was they were bitchy, but it turned out they were quiet nice girls. It reminded me that we should never judge by looks; Open, then see what her reaction is. Anything before that is only ever internal resistance.

Whilst you off with that set, I was speaking to a couple of girls. I spied they were chatting about hair dos. I opened with a situation hair approach; 'OMG! Seriously, you shouldn't get a fringe.' They were open and quiet warm to a conversation. I chatted for a bit, talking about where to go in Bristol (yak yak yak). The conversation came to a natural close and I moved over to wing you.

Also, opening moving sets on the street I'm finding hard. Especially when they are going in the opposite directions. Has anyone else had success with these types of sets? The day game boys always seem to be at least going in the same direction (which I've had success with). But the opposite direction... I haven't found a way to stop a group of girls effectively. It's almost like you need to display a really high value with 5 seconds... otherwise they are off. Anyone have any tips?

The bitch HB8 in Mbargo. It was a off start but I simple went up to her and said 'hey! You look pretty cute and I thought I'd come over and tell you. What's your name?' She smile but then patted me on the head (She was tall! I love tall girls!) I acted shocked that she did that! 'What the hell!! You just patted me on the head! I can't believe you did that!' I slightly turn my shoulder and shoot her a disappointed look. I thought it would lose her; but she played up to it. I had a good conversation that I bombed out. I wish now I wish I grabbed her hand and danced with her. Or at least tried.

There are 2 sets in The Academy that I specifically remember. My last wildcard. Thankfully as you said 'Go!', a new song came on! Straight in with 'OMG! Girls! Who the hell sings this song?!' They were really warm. Massive kino with the chosen target. You know when kino is almost a contact. Holding hands, touching her back, etc. I was on! We moved on because it I wasn't that interested at that point! (Actually I better get in touch with this girl!). Second set was my last set. HB8 again. I positioned myself right next to the her and her mate. I turned and just said:

MB: 'Hey! I just want to tell you you're pretty cute and I wanted to come and meet you'.
[She looked at her mate and smiled. ]
MB: 'So what's your name?'
HB8's mate: 'Yes!'
MB: 'Ey?'
HB8's mate: 'Our names are Yes?'
MB: [confused?]
HB8's mate: 'Where going to just Yes to you all night' [as in humouring me (I think)]
MB: 'Okay then? Well... I might as well cut to chase... are you coming home with me tonight?'
Both Girls: [look of disgust!]
MB: ***BAIL*** 'Okay maybe not! BYE!' [backwards dance my ass outta there!]

Anyway! So much for the small notes!

I agree with this. I'm slowly falling in love with the natural, direct opener. But in certain situations I simply don't feel comfortable using them. Vodka Revs was right at the start of the night and it just didn't seem right going up to my target direct. I'm convinced I would of been blown out pretty quickly. Going in with a fun opener and putting group theory in action felt right and in keeping with the mood at the time.



I'm still unsure of how we did that. It just sort of happened naturally. Which I guess can only be a good thing.

I think this is a big point and something that has stopped me from approaching for a long time. Many times I've looked at a set and decided they seemed bitchy, then not approached. It's all in my head and I'm just predicting the outcome before I take action, which is a MASSIVE part of AA. Thanks to this set, I'm now a huge fan of that wildcard game. If you hadn't wildcarded me to open those girls, I wouldn't of done it. As soon as you pointed them out my first thought was 'Oh fuck!'.

I completely forgot about this! That girl was stunning! I'm impressed you went in direct with this one. It also reminds me of a subtle thing you introduced me to in my final set.

When I opened my last set, I hesitated for a second. I didn't want to interrupt their conversation (Another re-accuring thought with my AA). You saw this and started counting down the 3 second rule. 3-2-1-Go!. That was a really nice little move that reminded me of the 3 secod rule and pushed me to start moving. I remember giving back the favour when you hesitated on your last set which worked just as well to get you motivated.
