Default Last Night's Report - The Arches, Glasgow - 06-03-2010, 11:37 AM

Here's a report from The Arches nightclub in Glasgow last night:

For those of you who don't know, the Arches is a proper nightclub i.e. you go there for the music as it costs £25 to get in (expensive for Glasgow) so it's not a local meat market type club.

I met with Gmeister from this forum - both of us had never previously met and we were both quite new to the Game, me particularly - in fact I have NEVER went on a night out with the sole aim of chatting up women! We discussed technique in a bar beforehand and Gmeister even did a "warm up" on a Dutch girl who was out with colleagues while in Glasgow to promote the launch of a new fashion store. His warm up was well received as the pretty Dutch girl was quite friendly and open to chatting. We soon left the bar but quickly realised we perhaps missed an opportunity to invite the girl and her friends to the Arches as she was new to town and looking for somewhere to go once the bar closed. Regardless, we were both pleased that we had at least got the game underway.

Next it was my turn and once in the club I opened a quick, friendly, warm up set within my target time of 30 minutes. This went well enough as I kept it nothing more than a bit of a friendly chat to get the wheels in motion so to speak.

As the early part of the night progressed, we both finished our warm up sets and then started hunting around for some more serious game. Both of us put in a good effort throughout the evening but neither of us really got anywhere near the close. I'm fairly convinced this was down to the venue more than anything else: extremely loud, dark, and it wasn't a neutral atmosphere like you would get if approaching a girl in a book shop or similar. Due to these conditions, I found it hard to get past what I like to call the "fact finding stage" i.e. building the rapport and building towards the confirmation and then close.

Overall though, I'm happy that I finally got a bit of game underway but I'm left thinking whether a nightclub is really going to bear any fruit with regards to meeting good women as the conditions just don't seem quite right for it. Maybe that's just me though?

I think the thing with nightclubs is you have to be high energy (like jynx), very forward, silent game or hit the dance floor. It's hard to do conversational pick up in a place like that unless your in a quiet spot.
So if your style is more chilled then you might want to try day game or out in bars which aren't too noisey.

As you say, The Arches is a "'proper' nightclub, as in going there for the music"...

I draw an analogy with The Ministry of Sound - I've never got anything there from any women (apart from when I took one I was dating with me!), it's just a totally different atmosphere at Ministry (+very loud, +drugged up ppl who are disconnected, +*some* areas are dark) from some of the other clubs.

Whereas, last night I was at Digress (yes, also a nightclub but not a "proper" music club - as it's just club anthem cheese and Michael Jackson) and k-closed a hottie.

>> whether a nightclub is really going to bear any fruit

Yes it will. Stick with it! You've only just f***ing started going out on the pull for goodness sake!!!!

Plus, on that same night, you could have invited the Dutch girl to The Arches......

Every club is different

In Glasgow, compare the vibe at The Arches to The Garage - the latter being more relaxed, plus much cheaper entry & drinks. Go there next week and wear a cowboy hat and a smile....

To be honest CDM, it sounds like you've made a pretty good start right there! Don't worry too much about nightclubs being good or bad or whatever else, if you spend long enough practising there you'll work out the angles.

I've had many discussions with my wings about the dynamics of different places. In Liverpool, for example, you need to take a subtly different approach to pick-up if you're upstairs in Hannah's bar - which is quite chilled out and relaxed - than if you're in Bumper - which is more upbeat and energetic. This should seem obvious, but I find its a point often overlooked.

As ever with this stuff, there are very few rigid rules applicable across the board. There are subtleties to every aspect of PUA. But you seem to have grasped this already

All in all though mate, I'd be very encouraged from your experience last night. As a starting point, that's really positive.

Just get on with it please

Ok, thanks for the comments and feedback, I hope to progress my game from here so I'll see how it goes...

I forgot to mention that I was completely sober last night so I believe I get extra points for that!
