Sunday the 3rd of February
This was the big day for the
LIVERPOOL NEWBIE MISSIONS meet, initially there was 5 ppl total set for the meet up. It was me, BlueEyedDevil(B.E.D.) and Xylo plus two other B.E.D. had spoken to from another forum.
I got to the Kazabar Cafa at 10:50 sat down at a couch by the front window and ordered a peppermint tea.
First to arrive was B.E.D., we got chatting, then another 5 minutes or so Xylo appeared.
On first impression i thought "oh fuck! maybe i'm bit out of my league, these look like they could be pro's" as the pair of them are quite athletic and good looking, Xylo is personal trainer and a sports massage therapist and B.E.D. does judo and used to kick-box as well. I'm the odd one out here as I'm neither very fit or healthy (several stone overweight actually), but i have a cheeky grin and wry smile, so i'm not a dead loss.
we chatted for a while, talking about what had gone on and what experience we had and that, this was while we waited for the other two from the other forum to turn up. In the end they had both shit out.
So, it was time to start approaching, outside the shop opposite the cafe we were in, was a women standing in the middle of the street trying to take photo. I decide that i would start. So i got up and was out the door in a flash to catch her, but as I was leaving she was heading back into the shop. I think i mananged to get half way across the road when she was back in the shop behind the counter, i'd lost her, but outside the shop was these two Chinese girls, so i turned to them rather than lose face.
Me: Excuse me, do you have the time please (shit i know)
Chinese girl1: sorry what #chinese accent#
Me: do you know what time it is? #miming a watch on my wrist#
Chinese girl2: #says something in chinese to girl1, she giggles#
Chinese girl1: Oh, 12, 15 to (it was 11:45)
me: oh thanks, so are you too at university here?
Chinese girl2: yes
Chinese girl1: yes we are here for 3, nearly 4 months
Me: and do you like liverpool then
Chinese girl1: yes very much. #giggling again#
Me: well thanks for giving me the time, see you later
I turned round triumphant hoping to see xylo and B.E.D. watching me from the window of the cafe, but they had gone. In my hurry to get to the shop assistant i had totally forgotten about paying for the drinks, so i headed back in the cafe to find them paying at the till, I gave them my share, to make sure they didn't think it was an elaborate ploy to get out of paying.
We then headed off for Oxfam just down the road. Soon as i walked into I approached the counter and asked the lad seeing there if he knew whether they had the "dark tower" by Stephen King. Guy was chatting for ages then brought and another equally inapt female assistant both of which were telling me how clueless they were, but both were really sound for trying.
B.E.D. and Xylo had spilt up and were moving round, I saw Xylo move into the contemporary fiction sat on boss chair then got chatting to a woman who was floating around there, later there was a funky looking pair of leather trousers i was showing him, at once he turned to one of the female shop assistance walking past and ask if they did them in his size totally straight faced.
We floated round for a bit longer then, waited for B.E.D. get his duck. I could see he was really struggling, looked at Xylo and thought maybe a change of scenery was necessary. So, we walk on down to this cheap CD shop, we had a walk round down stairs but there was relatively few people about so headed up stairs, but before we did B.E.D. got his duck and spoke to one of the shop assistants.
We went upstairs, i followed B.E.D. and spoke to an assistant asking about if they had a prog. rock section, Xylo and B.E.D. were off patrolling round. I a relatively nice milf browsing round so I approached and ask if she knew who was singing the song playing over the speakers. She said sorry and laughed and walk around the isle back to her husbands (oh oh). There was an ole lady and ask her if it was Neil Young playing or not, she yeah and then said about him coming back into vogue, we had a nice little convo.
I think we walked round a little more then decided to go get another coffee, we went to cafe nero just by the walkway down into central station. We got talking to the girl serving us, we had order 2 pots of chamomile, we had a little banter, and i got a free pot honey or at least i thought it was, you might not have to pay for it i dont know. Well we sat off talking a little bit more before getting up and moving onto Waterstones, which went straight to the top floor, there was no one there. next floor down I spoke to a woman looking at cooking books, i stood next to here and pick up a book,
Me: the only problem about looking for a cookery book is that i always get up starving afterwards.
Her: yeah, tell me about it haha, but i'm going for lunch after here so its alright.
We chatted for a bit, then parted ways. I think I had read it in an E-Book by Wayne Elise (Juggler), but he say something like, friends and ppl how are familiar speak in statements/observation rather than asking questions, so when you open like this ppl automatically feel more familiar with you. Anyway i found this really helpful, and i have found i get lot more conversation out of ppl when i do.
I moved onto the travel section, again moved up next to a female browser.
Me: I have always wanted to become a travel writer but i don't think getting the 52 bus counts
Her: ha you never know
we had a small conv, i had made up some shit about looking for a present for my dad and how he love Michael Palin, but he had already read all his books. we parted ways and i caught up with Xylo and B.E.D. think we had made another approach each then made a break for liverpool one.
We headed to HMV, I again used the making a statement play again and spend a minute chatting with another female customer, was in the same isle as Xylo when i heard asking a girl shop assistant what all the blue crosses stuck to the DVDs meant, She said something about it meaning 30% off, to which i butted in and said would it be easier to have a sticker with 30% off instead. we walk around for another 10/20 minutes before calling it a day.
Xylo got off to do some shopping, me and B.E.D. had a mini debrief while i got something to eat. After me and B.E.D. parted ways i got speaking to this girl busker about how long she had been playing guitar for and that, it was sound had really nice convo, and by this point it felt effortless which i was chuffed with!
What did I learn
-not everyone you meet of the internet is a serial killer, both Xylo and B.E.D. were sound and what's more they are on the same page wanting to improve them selfs.
-statements and observations promote a more familiar response and are better openers than quickly answered questions
-That I'm more than capable of speaking to strangers, no one explodes or anything if you stay talking past you initial question/statement/observation
-that chinese girls are friendly too (guess NOVA is onto something there)
goals for next week
lets see if i can turn all the inane convo into some flirting/attraction
