Just a short field report tonight, mainly for the reason that my night was geared towards seeing some quality dubstep in the form of Chasing Shadows (who were fucking disgusting by the way, well worth the 4 quid!).

Anyway, the night began with an innocuous pub quiz with 2 of my flatmates. We won a £20 bar tab, but this is irrelevant, mainly due to the attention of 2 girls about 3/4 of the way through the quiz. They were (I thought) trying to scab answers off our answer sheet, and I opened them with "you know, if you want our answers you're going to have to flirt with me better than that."
Turns out they were Dutch, over here in order to learn English with their language school, and we had a good chat for a while, during which I explained the concept of a pub quiz and suggested they come along next week and join our team. They enthusiastically accepted and went to get a drink, promising to get involved next week. Good, the blonde one was fit (about a 9...and Dutch, so probably a complete nympho...)

After this, my flatmates went home to have some noisy sex (they're seeing each other, just to clarify!) and I fooked off to Dojo's for Chasing Shadows. Whilst there I had my minor fail, which actually resulted in some valuable lessons. Allow me to set the scene. A blonde HB9 dancing with her Designated Fat Ugly Friend (hereby referred to as DFUF). Anyway, the HB9 was dancing badly so I picked her up on it, telling her that her DFUF had the right idea. She seemed to like it, giving me kino and showing interest. Fine. This is where it went wrong. I stuck with the "you're shit at dancing" frame and wouldn't let it drop, to the point where she was like (whilst laughing and taking it fairly lightly) "I don't like you! I'm going out for a smoke!"

I thought I'd lost her so ploughed on with my dubstep dancing (ask Hustler, I dance like a motherfucker when confronted with electronic music), and boshed out the Apocalypse on a girl who turned out to be American. No luck though, she just said "yeah maybe" whilst giving me the over shoulder treatment when I asked her "you wanna come back to mine later?". No matter though, the HB9 came back and opened me with "oh no not you again!" I rinsed her a bit more, and came very close to some sort of result by commenting on the ring she had on, but alas she gave me the "ohh no you're not getting away with that after what you said earlier!"

So some lessons from tonight:

1) Negging relentlessly is poor form, and whilst it generates interest, makes the girl feel too alienated to get a proper interaction. Also, as Kowalski pointed out on an earlier thread, it was a low value thing to do, and as soon as I'd done it I realised this.

2) What I should have done is, after the initial neg, said something like "you've got a perfect body though, if you moved right you'd look incredible on the dancefloor" then turned my attention to the DFUF (who could dance very well). After that, some well placed 2-set routines (best friend test etc) and I'd like to think I'd have been in. After all, even with my assault on her self-esteem, she seemed to be interested - plenty of kino and IOIs.

3) Once again, I went out to simply enjoy myself, and this showed. I generated interest from lots of people on the dancefloor who could tell I was the gooey centre around whom the fun occasionally revolved.

4) Dubstep nights, unlike regular Oceana-type nights, aren't ideal for pulling. People are mostly there for the music, so isolating off the dancefloor would've been very difficult (especially given the number of massive tunes that were being dropped) and more than anything, people just aren't there to pull.

5) Compared to some of the tough sets I've encountered this week, freshers are going to be a complete doddle to open and keep the attention of. You boys (you know who you are!) best be up for freshers week!

So there you have it. Christ I've rambled on alot, my apologies, must be the pharmaceuticals.

It's good that you are taking positives and reflecting on your bad nights there just as important as your good ones.

Great report, It's incredibly useful for others to read a disambiguation of how bad game can destroy sets. A lot of field reports seem to breeze over failures without giving a detailed explanation of "how" exactly that particular example of bad game can undo a good approach.

Something that struck me also, it may have been that not only was she put off by the over-abundance of negging, but she may have felt that the persistence on a single line of conversation was just an attempt to draw her into a rapport, instead of offering a general point of interest to elaborate on. This is why I think Style's idea of stacking two or three openers is great, because it keeps the flow of conversation dynamic whilst conveying that you have lots to say that will be of interest to her.

Great post Alex, dude you are doing so well!!...keep it up, this is only the second time you've gone out 'gaming'. I presume after your friends left you went to this Dub Step night alone and went off opening sets and being socialble, big respect for that. You're approaching women fearlessly with the apocalypse opener...you can't really get much more direct than that unless you ask her to fuck you right there and then!

Give yourself big props mate! I know loads of guys, me included that have been doing this stuff for months even years who struggle to open with such directness!

You're prospects look good mate, you'll do great I'm sure. Don't be hard on yourself just learn from your mistakes, you recognised that 'negging' continuously isn't the way forward early on in your development which is great.

To think last week when I first met you, you struggled to open with anything, even asking for where the toilets are, this is huuuuge progress in less than a week!!

I'm down next week mate, thinking of doing a 3 night onslaught, Summer Junky, Maverick, Willy you boys need to make an appearance, I've got Flakes number now to and he's up for a meet-up with the legendary 'Joeshow'!.
