Default Mobile version of site? - 23-05-2011, 12:26 PM

Would be cool if there was an app for iOS/Android/blackberry for this site, or a mobile version for phone browsers?

Unless there is and I overlooked it?

You could always throw in ads on the mobile apps to fund it

Great idea and I really think Jaz you should partially sell out to ads, not the annoying pop up variety, just a few no-discriipt ones here and there to keep the site running.

Ads will be a last resort.

In terms of an app, all the site needs is optimisation for mobile browsers. It needs to recognise a mobile browser and change the width/layout in order to suit them as the bbc website does etc.

If you did go down the app route there wouldn't be need for ads, once the app is made it doesn't cost anything more to maintain than the site does. Any phone that takes "apps" also has a perfectly adequate browser.

I use the site on my phone all the time, the only annoyance is having to zoom in/out all the time. Optimisation would solve that and it would be lovely.

True we can all donate even just a little for the site to remain awesome

I don't think it would be an issue having a couple ads on a mobile app even just for the admins to personally gain from it... after all its their work and the site is great

And I agree RLAJay zooming is the issue and optimisation at some point would be cool!

I like the lack of adverts personally, keeps it looking nice and clean.

Speaking of ads, have you ever thought about doing a bit of promoting for this place?

I found a vbulletin on my android marketplace. I am not sure who Jaz is contracted with, I notice that reverse DNS points to Layershift Webhosting, so maybe thats where the forum is hosted.

Anyway, installing the vbulletin app give me access to the vbulletin forums, not puaforum. I guess it an additional service we would have to buy. The vbulletin app is for demo purposes and connects to vbulletins user forums.

@Jaz > can you get pricing?
