Yes, the ranking system is largely influenced by your thanks rating. But not just the number of thanks you have. It also includes things like how many individual people have thanked you etc.

no idea what my rank has changed from
but going of posts thanked /to posted 18% of the time i say something with a bit of sense. 82% of the time its nonsense rambling. i'd say thats pretty close in day to day life as well!
